Serko Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I haven't seen this anywhere yet. Rafa in the past has said that Paletta is more like Carragher and Agger more like Hyypia. if we play Agger it means Hyypia moves across to the right side, something he is quiet capable of doing and Agger does have more first team experience then Paletta. On the other hand Hyypia and Agger are fairly similar and we could miss a blocker/tackler. it's a difficult choice, but it's a testemant to the squad that rafa has put together that if we had had these injuries last year we would have had a back four of finnan(or Josemi if he's still unfit)---Hyypia, Traore and Warnock, which frightens me to death, with no real options on the bench either. My own personal choice would be Paletta as I see Hyypia and Agger to be too similar, but I wouldn't argue with either to be honest.
Guest Dirk Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 (edited) Agger has far more experience than Paletta so for that reason alone I reckon it'll be Agger. Agger has very good ball skills as well. Edited August 21, 2006 by Dirk
Ronnie Whelan Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I think i will reserve judgment on this until the end of the season.
Leo No.8 Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Don't think Rafa considers Paletta as being ready yet. I'm pretty much certain it'll be Agger alongside Hyypia. Incidentally I don't agree Hyypia and Agger are similar players at all.
Maldini Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Don't think Rafa ever said Agger and Hyypia were similar
Puskas Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 It's got to be Agger. He's been playing well, arguably the pick of our centre backs in the last few games.
JohnnyH Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I think i will reserve judgment on this until the end of the season. To be fair, I think we'll need a decision before that for tomorrow nights match.
Serko Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 RAFA: PALETTA CAN BE ANOTHER CARRA Paul Eaton Rafael Benitez has insisted new signing Gabriel Paletta has the qualities to match the inspirational leadership of Jamie Carragher when he arrives at Anfield. The young Argentinian defender will join the Reds in the summer after Liverpool agreed a four year deal for his services. Benitez is delighted to have beaten off stiff competition to land the highly rated youngster and is confident he'll waste no time in proving himself on Merseyside. He said: "I've worked with other Argentinian defenders in the past and there is a good tradition of tough, aggressive and tactically strong defenders from the country. "Paletta is very tough and he's exactly the sort of player we need who will suit the Premiership. When you talk about the Argentinian defenders I worked with in Valencia, Paletta is more like Ayala than Pellegrino. If you're talking about Liverpool, he's more like Carra than Sami Hyypia. This is good because we will have a balance in the style of defenders. "He is a defender with a lot of aggression and we're sure he has a great future. He will learn a lot here, like Daniel Agger, and provide competitiveness in our defence. "We were watching him in the world under-21 championships in Holland recently. That's when our scouts spotted him and we identified him as the kind of player we'd like. "He has attracted a lot of interest from top clubs in Argentina like River Plate and Boca Juniors. River Plate even reserved a number six shirt for him, so we had to move quickly to sign him. We're delighted to have done the deal now."
Maldini Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Yeah we know he said Palletta is like Carra, but that doesn't mean Agger is like Hyypia.
Guest timh Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Agger. Everytime he's come into the team he has done well and never looked out of his depth. I think he is gonna be a big player for us this season.
Dule Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I dont think he compared Agger to anyone really. However i do think he is to short to be compared to Hypia, also he goes to the floor a fair amount more than sami does.
Huyton_Red Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Agger, has to be He has done very well against Chelsea and Sheff Utd After hyypia's display on Saturday this thread should be called Hyppia or Palleta - who gets the nod.
Sion Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Seriously though, I know Hyypia's a slow starter, but if he doesn't improve we should be looking at Carragher and Agger as 1st choice. Sheff United championship players rang rings round him.
Dominus Maximus Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Agger is just Agger. Can't compare him with anyone. He is a perfect player. Perfectly build unimpressed by any opposition. Well schooled, and can control the ball like no of the other CH we have. 3 years from now, and we will be fearing the obligatory 30 mil bud from Real Madrid. Duffman says: Oooooohhhhh Yeaaaaaahh....

G Richards Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Agger is more experienced than Paletta, so based on that he should play. Paletta looks to be a very good player, but his inexperience showed with a few errors pre-season. That's not to say he won't come good (I'm sure he will), but Agger is ready now.
dodgy1 Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Pissed? wouldnt you be with 30 million bud!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rimbeux Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 paletta hasn`t travelled, so I guess it`s Agger then! Wonder who the next man in is?
Gomez Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 ...all of which could explain the rumoured interest in Lucas Neill. He could cover Sammi, Carra and Agger as well as giving Palletta the time to bed in or be sent out on loan. He'd also provide cover for Finnan allowing us to flog Krompkamp for a tidy little profit. And as he's free, so we would make another bit of profit once we sell him on in a year or two! It's easy this pretending-to-know-what-the-f***-Raffa's doing lark! Is he free?I thought he had a year left? Can't see Blackburn being particularly compliant with us considering we just yoinked Bellamy from them for a reduced fee.
