Players that have left Liverpool in the past few years

It seems like most of the players we have got rid of never seem to quite make it elsewhere.

Biscan - Never heard from him last season

Owen - Very mediocre time since he left

Baros - Poor season with a poor team

Murphy - Danny Zi-Who?

Diouf - Has blown hot and cold

Barmby - Gone a while but career went downhill

Ziege - Retired I think?

Henchoz - No club at the moment

Stephen Wright - struggling to get in the Sunderland team

Even youngsters like Welsh, Otsemebor and Raven who were highly rated have failed to impress since leaving.

How's Smicer doing?

Keegan ,Beardsley, Larry Lloyd- anyone else?

Staunton, flourished despite playing in a schit side.

Heskey's had a mare at Birmingham and lost his England place, since he left. Baros didn't have the best seasons with Villa.

What always surprises me is how we never have any youngsters who leave and go onto make it, even in the football league. Arsenal for example, even when they let players go they often make it elsewhere, like Sidwell, Boa Morte and Pennant.

Simple really - Arsenal let some pretty good players go and we don't. (Sidwell excluded as he's sh*t)

I know but its just the way they release young players who go onto at least make a good career for themselves in the Championship at least and we release players, who are considered good prospects and end up in the lower leagues. Partridge, Newby, Otsemebor and Navarro etc. Stephen Wright and John Welsh who loads of fans thought should be in our first team a few years ago, are at least at Championship clubs but you wonder where they'll be in 5 years.

I honestly can't think of a single player who has left the Reds and gone on to better things. There might be a good arguement for Macca, who left a very poor team and went on to win the CL twice but he was always a squad player while at Real, never a regular starter. But I don't suppose that bothered him.

Owen? ;)

Friedel is one of the best keepers in the prem now, when he left us he was a joke, and davey thompson did very well at coventry but unfortunatly injuries have halted his progress

Kevin Nolan got released as a kid didn't he? Although it is only Bolton, you can safely say he made it in the premier league after being released by us as a kid - the only player I can think of that we released at that sort of age who has done anything.

Brad was never "a joke".

And Thompson was just not that good, irrespective of injuries.

Not saying we should have kept him but Aliou Diarra has done well since he left and is being linked to the likes of Arsenal and Roma. Central midfield is hardly an area we're struggling in at the moment though.

brad was always a good keeper, but playing second fiddle to james did hurt his confidence, and i don't think many liverpool fans were hoping that he stay with liverpool

and thompson managed to get in the england squad and did score 17 goals for coventry from midfield

brad was always a good keeper

So he wasn't "a joke" then.

As for Thmpson getting in the England squad ??? I'll just let that one pass.

did you rate friedel when he was at anfield?

and thompson was called up in the england squad soon after joinging blackburn :hmm:

i never said thompson was quality, but the original post was about players who have had some sort of a career after leaving liverpool and thompson was doing OK before his injuries.

Thompson never "made it".

Macca 'made it'

anyone who thinks a MOM performace including a top drawer volleyed goal for Real Madrid in a European Cup Final is not evidence of a player 'making it' is off their nut.

Thompson never "made it".

he was player of the year at coventry, blackburn signed him and he started really well for them, he was never good enough for a top four team, but he was doing fine until his injuries

Back in the 80's, Kevin Sheedy prospered at club (shame about the club) and international level.

Going off a tangent, why does the official site's 'past players' section include so many guys who only had one or two games for LFC-or none at all! ?
