Serko Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 there's some rumours on other forums that Spurs might be interested in Kewell if they fail to get Downing( ). I think the rumours came from Talk Sport(but am not sure0 anyway seeing as we have Gonzalez, Aurelio, Riise, Garcia, Zenden who could all conceivably play on the left, what sort of money would you want for Kewell. After all Sours are flush with cash at the moment. i'd take around £6-£7million if it meant Rafa could bring in another top quality player (kuyt, Alves) assuming we need to sell first and we can't get rid of our deadwood.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I would not want to sell. We know he can deliver good performances on the left and at any rate is a better player there than Riise, Zenden and warnock. Aurelio and Gonzalez are still unknown quantities. Besides, I reckon he can do a very good job for us up front this season as well.
sbaros Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 There might be a chance of us selling Kewell(Even though i somehow doubt it) but i don't think there's any chance Rafa would be even remotely intrested in Downing, tbh if we sold Kewell I don't think it would be to buy another LM, rather to have more money upfront or even in midfield, we've still got Zenden, Gonzalez, Aurelio, Garcia, Riise, Bellamy etc.
McBain Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I can see there being a chance. A move to London would help the missus. And I think Rafa would sell especially if he sees Aurelio as a lm more than a lb
Stew F Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Why sell one of our top players to a team who could be challenging top four this season. You would never see the chavs doing it, regardless of our/their financial position.
growler Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 with the 18mil for carrick, I think they will get downing.
Sion Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Kewell wouldn't pass a medical would he? with his arthritis an all.
downunder Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Kewell wouldn't pass a medical would he? with his arthritis an all. If Cisse can Harry can!!! Cisse cant pass full stop.......
MickeyDocs Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Didn't elisha_s mention that Kewell is still first choice at lm ahead of speedy?

David Hodgson Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I can't see Kewell attracting a fee given his injury record. Personally I think he's such a good player that we should bear with him, and get him fit and playing again. Until proven otherwise he remains the best left-sider at the club.

Makes me howl reading on here 'I'd take £7-8M for Harry' wouldn't we all.
Sion Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Maybe Kewell could be sold to fund Kuijt, who has played on the wing for Holland, and could provide back up for Gonzalez/Aurellio/Riise. Or not neccesarily Kuijt, but a similar player.
Ripley Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Why sell one of our top players to a team who could be challenging top four this season. You would never see the chavs doing it, regardless of our/their financial position. They've just sold Duff to Newcastle
SkippyjonJones Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Left side ? Riise, Warnock, Speedy, Aurellio, Zenden.Right side: Pennant, Garcia, Gerrard, Anderson. I can see no argument for Keeping Kewell to play as a winger. I can?t see a single valid argument to support him playing as a winger Full stop. However I could see ?possibilities? in keeping him to support the strikers as a deep lying striker / advanced midfielder.
realtarragona Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Kewell was one of our better players last season and is obviously a big favourite of Rafa's. Can't see him wanting to sell him. Although I do think the left side is a bit over-crowded at the moment if Warnock is being kept around.
Rimbeux Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Find it bizarre that people would sell a player of Kewell's quality cheaply for short term cash As it stands he is the best player we have on the left, until someone elses performances prove otherwise. If we recieved a proper offer, and by that I mean comfortable double figures, then I can see some thought. In a market where Carrick goes for that, where Johnson goes for that, Pennant goes for that, and Downing is quoted at double figures, selling him off cheap would be extremely worrying.
monkey puzzle Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 If we could get £7m for him then it would be good business to sell him. Don't think he is s**** just don't trust him to be consistantly fit.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Left side – Riise, Warnock, Speedy, Aurellio, Zenden. I can see no argument for Keeping Kewell to play as a winger. I can’t see a single valid argument to support him playing as a winger Full stop. For starters, we don't know that any of the alternatives are better. A few we do know are not and if we must trim the left, surely we should start with those.
Sion Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I think if Rafa hadn't have seen Kewell have the game of his life for Leeds (the one he always talked about vs Arsenal I think) he'd have been shipped off ages ago. He reckons he can get the best out of him, but I have yet to see it more than 10 times in his reign.
Woodsyla Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I can see no argument for Keeping Kewell to play as a winger.Left side ? Riise, Warnock, Speedy, Aurellio, Zenden.Right side: Pennant, Garcia, Gerrard, Anderson. Riise and Warnock are fullbacks, Riise can play LM but you cant include Warnock because then you could argue that Finnan and Kromkamp should be included in the right side list. So we have Riise who is also our first choice full back. Speedy, yes, been out for 9 months with cruciate damage, coming back well, never played a competitive game for us.Aurelio, again a full back and exceedingly injury prone and also has never played a competitive game for us.Zenden, much better centrally, cover for Gerrard/Alonso, yes can play LM but isn't that great out there. Sell Kewell and we look pretty thin on the left.
hideNseek Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 If it gives us the money to buy Kuyt then I'd sell Harry. We need another striker before the season starts and Harry is about the only player in our squad that would attract interest and a decent fee and we could actually live without. We're well covered on the left and after all the stuff Rafa has said about Speedy I'm guessing he's going to play a lot more than Harry anyway. Mind if we could get £5 mill for Warnock then obviously keep Karry.
