Marseille in October

Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has complained that Rafa Benitez has forced him out of Anfield after agreeing a loan move to Marseille.

The France international has endured a miserable time since the close of last season as a broken leg saw him ruled out of the World Cup and now, contrary to his wishes, he is on his way out of Liverpool.

Cisse was brought to Liverpool by then manager Gerard Houllier but under the tenure of Benitez he has never established himself as a first choice.

While reiterating his desire to stay on Merseyside, Cisse concedes that he had no alternative but to seek pastures new having been handed a stark ultimatum from the former Valencia boss.

"It was a big surprise to me when I got a phone call from Benitez saying I should leave," Cisse told the News of the World.

"He told me bluntly: 'There's no room for you here.' I was so upset because I don't want to leave Anfield.

"After that conversation, I have no alternative but to try to find another club at least for now.

"So I have agreed to go to Marseille in October when I am fit again, but only on loan.

"I want the Liverpool fans to know the truth. They have made me so welcome and been very supportive.

"I want them to know it is not my choice to leave Liverpool."

Some would say thank god for that, but not me.

Can we get an exact date in October? I need to book the function room.

Wouldn't get too excited Knox. According to the longer interview in the NOTW he says:

"Isn't it better to move on at least for now in the hope that I can come back here soon and be happy again?"

and

"I had to fight for a loan deal to Marseille because the club wanted to get rid of me all together. But it is a loan deal with only a view to a permanent transfer and that gives me hope. I will not quit Anfield easily."

Feel a little bit sorry for him to be honest but if he'd put the effort in on the pitch then he wouldn't have to face this situation.

I'd be amazed if Marseille were attempting to buy him outright

Infact i'm slightly amazed they're offering even a loan deal

Been one of the unluckiest players with injuries I can remember, was just starting to find his feet when the first break happened.

My abiding memory of him will be after he scored his penalty in Istanbul the sheer joy on his face was a sight to behold and his delight at the end when dancing round old Big Ears.

Cheers Djib

Why?

They want the player, and have a chance to jump ahead of anyone else, ie Lyon, and get the player onside where they had a narrow chance. I think Newcastle would have done similar with Owen

Francis Jeffers was there? :hooked:

Got no problems with him as a man, showed great character in the way he came back from horrendous injuries. However, he should never have been signed in the first place, he was a Houllier signing and was never going to fit in with Rafa's system, and he was hugely overpriced in the first place.

Good luck to him.

Goalscorer, pure and simple.

You know, except for the multitude of proper chances he was given you're spot on

He had plenty of chances and if he actually bothered running more than 1 metre for the whole time he was on in matches like Man City, Man Utd away he might of got more chances.

If he applied himself properly on the pitch, then maybe Rafa would have a place for him here. I really don't get the lad, the only person he's got to blame is himself, plus the fact he's just not good enough. Talking a good game off the pitch means nothing, if you don't put the work in and can't follow basic instructions once you cross the white line.

One of the only things i'd take issue with, with Rafa is how Djibril was ever allowed to play for the club again after his disgraceful, inept gutless performance at Old trafford,

Exactly, he's brilliant off the pitch constantly talking about how he loves Liverpool, the people etc, look at me getting married in my red suit bla bla bla but doesnt seem to have the slightest interest into putting it onto the pitch. Robbie has come back and worked his b******s off, Rafa even has Kewell working hard and tracking back a lot more than he did under Ged and at Leeds but he just cant get Cisse to change and thats why he's off.

Shame as he has/had some good raw talent to work with but he just doesnt have a brain

You can't help but have a soft spot for Cisse, but what comes around comes around.

what comes around comes around.

possibly the most profound statement ever made on these boards. :P

Love how Djibril is so dramatic with them quotes. 'Wanting the fans to know....' what, that Rafa is a meany? Like we're gonna be mad at him for shoving Cisse out the door? Don't think so Djibril!

Hope he's fit and well sooner rather than later, so he can get his move to the club of his dreams sorted

Best Fans in the World

Wow, so he's not allowed want to play for another club ever? It's not ok that he might have a club in his own country that he always imagined playing for? Even when the club that were chasing him for 2 years, that he really wants to stay with, have turned around and told him he's not wanted?

To be fair to him, I think he's just making it clear it wasn't him who initiated the move. Although he was a bit bitter in the interview on SSN earlier.

They said they're going to show the rest of the interview later

Ours is a special club for all the reasons we've talked about many times, so it can hardly be surprising when players - be they Cissé, Didi, Smicer or even scousers such as MacAteer are unhappy about leaving however we personally rate them.

Not the best player we've ever had but by no means the worst and contributed significantly to our CL and FA Cup wins.
