No gong for Gerrard?

See the press have picked up on Gerrard again missing from the Honours List due anytime now. However, while he has been ignored again for the Istanbul heriocs, they have seen fit (reportedly) to give Barry Ferguson an MBE! Six months ago the excuse for Gerrard's omission was that Liverpool hadn't recommended him. What will be the excuse this time if these reports are true??

I'd love to think he'd been offered one and turned it down. The bloody things should be abolished.

Couldn't agree more.

Who wants honours any road?

Posted

As the news of who has got what is embargoed till tomorrow, how do you know if he has or not? And if he hasn't, maybe the club didn't put him forward again?

Gongs are a good old fashioned bristish tradition, we should keep them. Its a good way of recognising people for their services to the country.

SG should get one.

f*** the royal family & their 'honours'

The only honours a footballer should want are the kind Stevie has been picking up recently. EC medals, FAC medals - even player of the year & goal of the season are light years ahead of a s***ty mbe

That's a cop out the clubs don't put them forward. A flunky from the Royal Household ( all on benefit by the way) ask the club would the player accept one with a curtsy, if the club say no he is a raving Bolshy they don't get a mention, if the club says yes he just loves the Queen and the Duke he is put forward to a panel ( all on benefit by the way ) who decide if he is good enough.

Sorry its nothing to do with the royal famliy its totally politically controlled now by the government.

But i agree tbh. Stevie should be worrying about EC medal etc

Also the Gongs should not really be for footballers, pop stars they should be for people who dont get the gratitude for their work i.e care workers etc.

I'm sure there are alot of worthy awards in that list, among the usual business class suspects. And on the 'popular' sports side Graham Thorpe was a world-class cricketer, no arguments there. But really...Barry Ferguson? There's room for Ferguson but not Gerrard? Come on!

When they line up for Inger-lund, the only 2 that don't sing that shyte, is Carra and Neville. That's the only time I think

"Neville seems to be a nice lad really", then a massive does of reality kicks in after "God save that inberd German slag " finishes, and then its back to thinking he shags his ma up the ..............

That was precisely my argument. But it seems there are people on this site who think it isn't an insult.....

As the news of who has got what is embargoed till tomorrow, how do you know if he has or not? And if he hasn't, maybe the club didn't put him forward again?

Well, now you know, don't you? As a general rule, I know who is on the list at least 24 hours before it comes out. But I didn't this time because I was otherwise engaged. :)

Honours are a nonsense, but if it has not been offered to Gerrard and refused then the omission is a disgrace.

Posted

They're crap - but if they've got to be given I think it should be for a career's service i.e. don't give them to footballers until they get to the end of their playing days.

Rule seems to be, beating a Brazilian at football gets you nothing, murdering one gets you the CBE

But only the cynical amongst us would dare think of such a thing!
