did anyone get to see Rafa's reaction to any of our goals? We saw plenty of Pardew on the box, but none of Rafa - they've probably sussed that he'd just look at his watch, or criticize the placement of the shot, despite it going in.

Same in Istanbul, never got to see what he did...

One of these days he's going to launch into backflips and the TV cameras won't get it.

He generally gives a thumbs up and contains himself before making 'now concentrate' type gestures. Mr Cool is our Rafa. I don't remember Shanks getting worked up much when we scored either - he used to do the pointing at the head 'concentrate' stuff too. Mind you, very difficult to get a decent view of the inner workings of the dugout back then.

his attitude is exactly the attitude he wants to convey to his players... to keep being successful you can't get too high or too low you always have to keep a clear and calm mind to move forward... if he was jumping for joy i'm sure our boys would let up more than if he was calm and said enjoy this boys, but after let's gear up for the next challenge... its exactly whats given us this never-say-die attitude the past two seasons... can't let the emotions get the better of you

well-said... can't get too caught up in the moment when we're on a mission to make some history! :D

How anyone could keep their cool when the third went in I don't know.

There were no shots of our bench for any of the goals (but then there never are) - I'd imagine at least one of them on there might have raised a smile and shouted 'very good Stevie, good show'?

No passion, sack em all.

Spot on. I used to get a bit annoyed by managers who sat vacantly when their team scored because my philosophy was 'if the goal LFC just scored made me that happy then why does the other teams manager not celebrate when his life is consumed by football'. But I suppose when Rafa showed up it re-shaped my outlook on how managers should react. I mean why celebrate when you haven't won the match yet?

why do they never show the Liverpool bench  Same in Istanbul, same in Cardiff. We saw plenty of Ancelotti chewing gum at a 100 miles an hour, and Alan fecin Pardew in his crappy tracky!

There is a very short clip of Rafa after the winning penalty save in Istanbul, with Alex Miller launching himself at him

because Rafa is bad publicity for British cooking - he's become one hell of a fat bar steward since he left these shores

as the man himself said "winning trophies has made me this way.!" ...or words to that effect.

And long may he dine out on his success. Not a bad haul for two seasons work. x 1 EC x 1 ESC x 1 FAC and two runners up spots in LC and WCC. No wonder the man is putting on some weight.

The media are more interested in the antics o the more animated managers. Rafa is too conservative and cool for them. He has an almost embarrassed look on his face when we win. The media must hate him as he gives nothing away and never gives into their silly games.

Er, excuse me.

rafa is neither fat nor tubby, thank you very much.

He is merely 'big boned', as it were.

;)

He's got a big bone in his stomach then

:D

aye, in his "lean" days

in all seriousness, there has been times when ive seen him a bit podgy and ruddy faced and the other day he was sweating quite a bit under the (admittedly bound to be hot) tv lights and i thought. "i hope he starts taking care of himself, hes not looking too healthy"

get fit rafa!!

Probably because directly after a goal--or at most other times during the match for that matter--just about every other person in the stadium is doing something more interesting than Rafa. The most amusing thing Rafa has done on camera was when the Sky Sports graphic co-incided with his rather uninteresting swing of his hand.
