Just because I mentioned James, doesn't mean he would get in my top five. Unlike most on here, I've been fortunate to have seen very nigh all of them since - and including Cyril Sidlow. Grobbelaar was pretty good but although he made some brilliant saves, he made quite a few rickets as well. If he was playing for us now, I shudder to think what league position we would be in. Remember, we had a bloody good defence (and team) when he played for us in his prime. So my top five would be: 1. Clemence 2. Lawrence (very good at blocking shots) 3. Reina (probably the best of all of them in saving pens) 4. Sidlow (Welsh Intl when they had a very good team) 5, Grobbelaar There is very little to choose between the five of them, imo, and there are others like Friedel and Younger who deserve a mention.

Now that the spotlight has fallen on Pepe, how does he rate among Liverpool's goalies of living memory? There's quite a list, headed by Cyril Sidlow, Younger, Tommy Lawrence, Ray Clemence, Grobbelaar, James and Pepe himself. Think meself he would be third on that list, behind Clemence and Lawrence but a lot depends on how far back your memory goes!

And he should know, Souness played for Spurs once before getting homesick. Both Souness and Gerrard are all-time greats for us but the only aspects that Gerrard was superior to Souness in was speed and first-time delivery.

Apparently there was a moment when the teams came out for the secondhalf. Torres followed the Liverpool team out into their half and then suddenly remembered he was with a different side... Reportedly.
-
Yeah, but he took a long time putting his boots back on.....

Charlton had a huge kop on one side of the ground years ago. It wasn't covered then and there were 35,000 on there and it still didn't look full. Think they had a lot to work with.

Let's just hope he doesn't play as a lone striker tomorrow, that's all!
-
But if that paper is right, then Adam will get his wish very shortly..... I am positively sophisticated compared with some of the c**p you come out with. Isn't the infant school open this afternoon......?
-
What makes you think Anelka will come? He loves London, just signed a new contract and he is 31 as well. And he has baggage or have you forgotten? Problem is we sell Torres and every club out there will know we have money sloshing around and will jack up any selling price when we enquire. I note that one paper today is saying that Man Utd is hijacking our bid for Adam. Well, there's only one day to go and my hope is that Torres will be told to stay as Chelski don't have any players we want (except Ashley Cole as a leftback and that's a non starter). Torres and Suarez as a pairing? Yes, Suarez and Anelka? No, Suarez and N'gog ?You've got to be kidding. A no brainer as far as I am concerned.
-
May have missed this, but is Suarez eligible to play for us in the Europe League?
-
Torres apparently is on a short holiday break in Spain. If the clubs can agree terms, he will have to get his skates on. Trouble is, in the short time available, we may end up with a stop-gap as well as cash and that won't suit us at all. Make him stay until the summer, I say. Blackpool are playing hard ball with Adam, so can we with Torres.

What a time to ask for a transfer -just before the window closes. Liverpool will sell for 50 million pounds but will ask for Anelka instead of Sturridge. Would anybody be happier with that?

The odds are shorter on Charlie Nicholas than on Burley.......

I would put Liddell in before McManaman. Hmm.... Liddell, Rush, Dalglish, Barnes Howzat for a front four??

Exactly. Frankly, our decline was sparked by Alonso being allowed to leave. Then it was compounded by Mascher wanting away. Apart from Gerrard, Alonso was streets ahead of any other player in the squad in the early days of Benitez. We were fine until Benitez tried to bring Barry into the club in Alonso's position. Then it started going pear-shaped.
-
Sorry, but that is rubbish.
-
Should be interesting to listen to that. The English players have enough difficulty in understanding some of his accent, let alone the foreigners!

How the Hell would you know? You were too busy fomenting revolution among the students at that college of yours. Remind us, how did that pan out.....?

By poisoned chalice I meant that the weight of public opinion about Liverpool and the adverse politics and publicity we have attracted could make the leading contenders think they would have a sharp uphill struggle and the game wouldn't be worth a candle. viz Deschamps, Rijkaard, and the guy from Mainz distancing themselves from the job this week. I still think that an outsider with promise like Coyle may be picked because of that scenario or even someone no-one has thought of yet. If you think that deserves an epithet like 'misery guts' that is up to you. By the way, I lol when Gravy came on the scene. He would start an argument in an empty room....

If Hodgson goes, I don't think the club will be able to get in one of the topclass managers currently being tipped for the managerial post. I can't think of anybody who would take it anyway as most will now regard it as a poisoned chalice. Looking into the CVs of the possible contenders, afraid I can't see further than Owen Coyle. So he has limited experience of the Premiership and handling a decent transfer kitty? That's not a reason to dismiss him. Shankly was in the same boat. Failing Coyle, wouldn't be completely surprised if Henry and Co don't turn to someone no-one, including the press, have mentioned so far. And there is always Benitez waiting in the wings..... If the Hodge goes this weekend, don't think Dalglish will take over even as a caretaker manager. At the moment he is in the midst of a cruise, I understand. Besides which, there is that old adage - they never come back.
-
Didn't he once break a Liverpool player's leg during his playing days?
-
What's the chance that Michael Owen will play?
-
What if the guy who gets the right date lives more than 25 miles from Liverpool.....?
