Trouble is, a lot of people with very balanced views have been talking about certain issues that need addressing within the club, be it at the team or at board level for f'cking ages - whether we win or lose.... Do they start threads on how bad things are when we win ? No. We played some cracking football during that run and now we are playing inconsistent football - reminiscent of the Evans era, where we passed teams to death scored goals yet conceded nearly every attack. ....except now we're hardly scoring and not conceding. Very frustrating.
  2. We'll need to score early.
  3. Sorry for posting in retrospect, but that headline figure has included the rebuilding of the reserves aswell. Reina, Kromkamp, Alonso, Garcia, Morientes and Crouch at circa 38-40m isn't too bad. At a snapshot, you're only looking at one possible failure at the moment, and the others have made starts ranging from solid to sublime wthout notable "failure".
  4. Where did I say that ? We bought a barrell load of players in the GH era (which I still think was very good by the way), that simply were not given the chance for match-goers to get a chance of judging on a tangible basis. The word around the terrace was always heresay and never solid evidence - you'll see the same thing in a few years time when players like Barragan, Antwi etc. aren't coming through, or at least given a chance. I am stating that in GH's time we bought a player for the first-team (Cheyrou) and left the poor sod to rot on the bench to "learn" how English football "worked". Good job we didn't do that with poor ickle Garcia otherwise we'd not be looking at number five in the cabinet because he'd be scared sh*tless of playing football again. Felt sorry for Le Tallec and FsP because I think they were great prospects that were bought more as trophies than footballers.
  5. When we've got Crouch who is a decent link striker, two others that couldn't score in The Grafton at 11pm on a Saturday night and another who was bought to appease the fans but looks f'cked after half an hour it's kind of hard to move on. We are shocking in front of goal and the stats have been there all season to prove it.
  6. Yes. We sold a goalscoring trouble-maker and bought a non-goalscoring trouble-maker, who turned out to be one of the biggest waste of money in the clubs history. Cheyrou was asked to sit on the bench for ten games like a naughty school-boy while he learnt how English football worked. As I said, piss-poor managment.
  7. There was no-coincidence Stevie, (in hindsight admittedly, and we knew no better) it was just piss-poor management.
  8. Let's test Scot's infinite wisdom on qualified goalscorers that we have a realistic chance of signing, and see if he can unravel the mystery of who else can make this team better....

  11. Very strange team selection there in my humble....
  12. I should be in the nest, but didn't trust myself to wake up at 4am after a couple of Jack Daniels. These later kick-off's are better for the atmosphere in Ingerland but a toil in convict land. Watching Everton for the next hour and a half may require an alarm-call for our kick-off.

  14. Aye - and once he is sold I would expect them to be loosened yet again !
  15. I think he was referring more to the time and effort that had gone into it. Some of the best banners I've seen probably cost about a fiver to make..... Anyway, comparing a football banner to items that appear in the Tate Gallery kind of tells me that you're criticism is in the wrong context. I mean why produce a tradtional banner such as what is currently unfurled on the Kop. It's different granted, but I think that's the whole point.

  17. I don't think it was meant to represent the "culture" of the club - how do you do that exactly ? It does represent a lot of other things that are more poignant and important though to the fans though.
  18. Agreed. Think it's modern yet pays respect to the major events that have shaped or affected the club. Compared to the dreadful excuse of a Liverbird (and crest) that has appeared on our shirts over the last decade and more, I think it's very refreshing. It's only a banner ffs, and represents the club a lot better than the "Houllier out" banners and the cretins that disgraced the club towards the end of GH's reign.
  19. You should know by now that any criticism of the sacred cow that is Rick Parry will be met with widespread shouts of 'Mercy' and finger-pointing at the trophy cabinet. Your questions are all valid however..... If we fail to attract a world-class striker to the club in the summer then the managers job will have got a whole lot more difficult, and make no mistake the purse-strings must be loosened somehow to accomodate this.
  20. Exactly right. Told the missus that a large proportion of Ingerland fans sang the Dambusters tune at the games and she was disgusted. I can't say the current manager inspires my interest in the national team, but the average Inglish fan is an utter twonk - particularly the shaven-headed, mock-terrace yob, Burberry brigade.
