Riise is athletic, never injured, has a great attitude, runs all day, and has a cannon of a shot. But he is our weak link in the back 4. It's not a coincidence that many teams attack down their right side to expose Riise. I guess attacking down this side will also pull Sami out wide to cover, since his lack of pace is one other weak link in our defence, (Finnans lack of height being the third imo.) To avoid being skinned, Riise stands off and allows the wingers to cross. Not good. His tackling is also suspect, so he usually avoids it and tries to lead attackers out wide, which is fine in itself, but if he could tackle properly it would have been better. So, in short, I think he is a decent enough squadie who has an important role to play at LFC, but we could do with a left back who is better defensively (tackling and positioning...) and who has better use of the ball.

Sorry, Nolan is decent enough, but he isn't even close to Alonso's knees.

Reina 7 - Looks like he is getting better now. More confident, and a great save from Sutton. Finnan 7 Carra 7 Sami 7 Riise 6 - Lets them cross too easily from his side, also pulled out of challenges... got some good crosses in though. Momo 6 - Ran a lot, very sloppy passing! Xabi 8 - Good game. Playmaking. Gerrard 7 - Getting better now, wasted some balls, but more guts this time. A goal would do him good. Garcia 8 - Tireless performance, always willing to try and create, and good runs into the box. Crouch 6.5 - Good goal, if a bit flukey. Decent on the ground, but loses too many headers. Nice pass for Garcias goal. Kuyt 8 - Workmanlike, nice goal...intelligent interplay. Good game.

Yeah.... Aurelios one assist is better than Pennants 6.... Its tough to be better than 3 players combined too.

I disagree. He seems to be getting better as the season gets going. Its hard to be a playmaker when most players are just standing still waiting for the ball to hit them in the a***.

Ok, how about impatiently wasting the ball in a trying to be spectacular manner then? He is a fantastic player, but I dont think he is a playmaker who can dictate play and tempo.

Imo Gerrard isnt best suited for the playmaker role but further up field running at the defence. Let Alonso pull the strings in deep midfield. I got very annoyed when I saw Gerrard run all the way across from right midfield almost to left back to literally nick the ball away from Alonso....cue Hollywood attempted pass....loss of possesion.

I have to agree with that. He did start to put himself about in the last 20 min though. As for those asking for Alonso to be dropped.... we are watching a different game.
