Well now I know first hand what getting a face full of tear gas feels like. Last night was one of my worst experiences at a match in nearly 30 years of going to games. The organisation and policing was a disgrace, much much worse than Istanbul. I saw women and children tear gassed, people battoned to the ground for the crime of being locked out of the game despite having tickets, people thrown down concrete stairs and riot police having the time of their lives attacking innocent fans. These fans included Milan fans as well as those from Liverpool. We arrived at the ground 30 minutes before kick off due to being on a train that took over an hour for the normally 20 minute journey to be met by a barricade of riot police gleefully telling the growing crowd of fans that they couldn't come through as the ground was full. There was absolutely no trouble coming from the fans even as the anxiety about missing the game grew and the crowd was dong an admirable job of self policing as those who were starting to get more anxious were being urged to calm down as it was becoming obvious that the police were itching for an excuse to kick off. Well it seems they didn't need an excuse as without warning they blasted us with tear gas and baton charged us. I and my mate got the full force of the tear gas but thankfully just avoided the swinging batons (quite how seeing as we were pretty much blind I'm not sure). Bizarrely after this attack they then allowed some fans (including us) through this cordon. It was like a war scene with people bleeding, limping and many throwing up due to the effects of the gas. After drenching our faces with water to try and ameliorate the effects of the tear gas we moved on towards the stadium where we were met by a barricade of riot police vans lined up to block our progress and ranks of riot police at the top of each stairwell. Many of the police were wearing gas masks. People were desperately trying to find which way to go to get in and the police were continuing the violence and I saw one man thrown backwards down concrete stairs smacking his head knocking him completely unconscious. The police response to his injuries was to just walk over and pour water over his face which failed to bring him round. I hope he was ok because it was a sickening fall and he looked in a bad way. Eventually we hit lucky as a couple of riot police we were pleading with checked to see if their superior was looking and then pushed the pair of us through the barricade and let us through to the stadium. We got into the ground 20 minutes into the game and missed most of the next ten minutes until we could finally see properly after the effects of the gas on our eyes wore off. At no point were our tickets checked. Of course some of the blame lies with the c*nts blagging their way in but this happens at all big games and the organisation at this game was by all accounts an absolute disgrace with little or no proper ticket checks and entry points that were impossible to control against blag tickets or people bunking in. Last year's FA cup in Cardiff had thousands there without tickets without any of these problems because entry to the stadium was strictly controlled.

Despite the Lawton love-in regularly found on here he often spouts utter sh*te.

He was down at the front of the Paddock near the dug-out last Sunday when the youth team were parading the cup and then climbed over the barrier and went off with them down the tunnel.

Flying from Speke on Wednesday morning and back on Thursday morning. I would have loved to have made a week of it but with our first born due in just four weeks I couldn’t really do anything other than the day trip.

Half the odds to reach the final. I had a good night on Tuesday (as well as the obvious!) I had a couple of quid on Agger first and last goalscorer at 40-1 each so got £160 for those and then £165 for winning the semi.

I had £10 each way at 33-1 after we drew Barca. It will have paid for my flight if we win. I had £10 AT 50-1 before the Olympiakos game in 2005. That paid for a big chunk of my Istanbul trip.

Exactly. I haven't missed a home game in decades, every sh*tty league cup game, qualifiers, friendlies etc and paid thousands over the years in advance through my season ticket payments, yet someone who might have only been to six games in their life might get a ticket in front of me. It's b*llocks.
