Are people to focused on Hicks and his other teams? It seems that the consensus is that Hicks needs to sell the Rangers or Stars to meet whatever it is that RBS may require. But, the Rangers and Stars are but two parts of what Hicks owns or has investments in. He could sell some other company that is off everyones radar. He could use other guarantees for RBS that satisfies their demands. I doubt Hicks is down to his last fiver in his personal accounts. I sense that Hicks will do whatever is possible to hold onto LFC. Just because Gillett has a few extra million now doesn't mean Hicks won't find some under his lounge chair. I guess what I am saying is i'll believe it when I see it that Hicks can't finance the next loan. And we only have two weeks to find out. I don't want to get any hopes up as I/we have in the past when there was a lot of speculation G&H won't get refinancing or they will be selling from all the ITK's. Not a matter of if but when. Tick follows tock and all that. And yet they'e still here.

Well we all have followed this closely. Including what G&H have done in the US/Canada. RBS are no mugs inspite of their problems. Or even because of their problems. Whatever is in the refinance package you can wager RBS is covered. Everyone can speculate on what Hicks can and can't do. But never underestimate his ability to play the financing game to the limit. Both the Stars and Rangers have been long term in his stable. I suspect early on he did everything he could to avoid defaulting on interest payments with his franchises. But now it is not as important as doing everything necessary to keep LFC from being in a default position because he make make a lot more off of us eventually. And he s***s on himself if the club go into administration or RBS calls in the loans. He won't make the profits he so desperately thinks he can. So imho the refinance will go through or the club will be sold and G&H walk away with a tidy profit. But the question would be why sell the LFC when they are selling their other clubs. But ya' never know.

No worries. It seems every week there's some twist in the tail. TBH..I think that's why a lot of supporters have a blase attitude. If and when something really does happen, then deal with it at the time. Otherwise, don't want to know. Except those of us who follow this saga a lot more closely.

Texas Rangers' cash flow will be bigger issue in off-season 06:03 PM CDT on Sunday, July 5, 2009 On the Fourth of July, the Texas Rangers found themselves locked in a first-place tie with the ruling kings of the American League West, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Texas' first series of the season in Anaheim (Monday through Wednesday) surely will tell us more about how long these Rangers can contend. The good news is that the club knows help is on the way. The bad news is it almost surely has to come from Oklahoma City. There are at least two secondary reasons why the Rangers aren't likely to add prominent pieces before the July 31 trade deadline that we will get to in a moment. But the latest reports of the shakiness of the Tom Hicks financial empire are at the forefront. The Rangers' borrowing money, perhaps as much as $15 million from Major League Baseball, probably wasn't the big deal it was made out to be earlier in the week. It was money the Rangers would have collected later this season, anyway. Treat it like your employer giving you a couple of extra paychecks ahead of schedule which, of course, doesn't happen to us. But it's not something that will lead to commissioner Bud Selig making moves with the Rangers' 40-man roster. However, the loan or advance from MLB, along with the decision to dissolve Hicks Sports Marketing Group this week, are just further signs of the troubles the Rangers owner is experiencing. You can add to that the Stars pretty much watching free agency from the sidelines this week, although the club's payroll is such that they weren't likely to be doing any big spending regardless. I think it's pretty obvious, however, that with so much having been made of this team's No. 1-ranked farm system and an all-but-established target of 2010 as the time to pursue the playoffs, the Rangers won't be big players at the trade deadline. If help comes, it could be from the bats of Josh Hamilton, finishing his rehab in Oklahoma, or top hitting prospect Justin Smoak, just promoted to Triple-A from Frisco. If there is bullpen help to be found, it could be top pitching prospect Neftali Feliz, recently moved out of the rotation, carrying the kind of role Tampa Bay's starter Saturday night, former No. 1 overall pick David Price, performed for the Rays last September and October. Maybe Price (six runs in 1 1/3 innings Saturday) should revisit the 'pen for a bit. But if you're still thinking about top-end starting pitchers on the block coming to Texas, don't bother. And it's not simply because Hicks doesn't want to spend. For one thing, in addition to money which Hicks may or may not have, those elite players cost prospects. It makes little sense for the Rangers to start reducing that farm-system ranking at this time. In addition, check the standings. In the National League, only three of 16 teams can be considered to be out of the division or wild-card races – San Diego, Arizona and Washington. And those teams aren't overburdened with veteran salaries to dump. Who would be the Rangers' potential trade partners in the American League? Possibly Baltimore, Kansas City and Cleveland. Other than last year's Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee, a player I still can't imagine the Indians dumping, the list of those teams' players that could fill prominent roles for the Rangers while reducing those clubs' payrolls is a short one. Tough economic times have done more than put a strain on Hicks' sports empire. For months starting last fall, it eliminated any potential buyers as he sought first to sell a minority share of the team and, finally, a majority interest. If those talks are moving along but going slowly, it doesn't matter for the 2009 season. The Rangers should make of this season what the current roster and farm system permit. The concern is the winter. Even good young teams need veteran help. And it's a fair guess in watching the current Rangers that more starting pitching beyond what Oklahoma City might provide will be a real need. If Hicks remains a financially strapped owner with no sale on the horizon, then the Rangers' hopes of capitalizing on the growth of the current team and top prospects will be limited to just that. That's when I think players and fans will have their most legitimate gripes to voice. A little extra spending now would be a luxury. A what if scenario. What if G&H do refinance the loan with RBS and then announce a new done deal financing plan for the stadium to commence work within the next 6 months? It may be that when things go so quiet we get blindsided. Let's not forget their plan is a new stadium. Maybe the refinancing has been basically agreed and just waiting to the end to sign. And all this time G&H have proceeded to work on a different financial package for the stadium. Maybe new investors, who knows. Sometimes we may underestimate them. So what if they come out with both at the same time? Might take the wind right out of any protest plans.

Is there an option to buy into the club? Or is it an all or nothing situation? Can supporters get a foothold and then grow from there. Would a portion of the club and a seat on the board be enough to allow more transparency with the operation of the club and it's finances? Or would once you get in, you realize there is little one can do about the financing because you don't have the dosh to stop the majority owners from getting their way? To many questions and no crystal ball to find out if there is a happy ending.

Tend to agree with you. I think Rafa will buy 3 players. One semi big purchase. A solid back up, probably a CB. And a decent younger player willing to be a squad member, maybe a LM or striker depending on who he spends the most on. And he'll do it without spending £50 mil. Probably £30-35 mil plus wages.
