I’ve seen a few things (stats) that suggest Nunez might not be as good as the goal record suggests. His link up play, passing and touch are not the best (pretty poor in fact) and is massively over achieving in his expected goals (xG) something which is hard to maintain. But he’s only young and certainly seems to have the raw materials to work with but at 80m or so you’d want a bit more than raw materials so will all depend on what price we can negotiate for him I guess and if other clubs get involved in a bidding war.

I agree but we’ve said this many a time at the beginning of the window and it plays out in that way. Other seasons we’ve still had players in their prime but we can see holes appearing in the squad be it form, injuries, age, contracts ending or close to and end so the rebuild needs to start sooner (now) rather than later. Fingers crossed we get it right cos we know other clubs will be spending.

I hope so but we’ve already lost out on tchoumeni given souring prices and it seems that as soon as that happens we miss out on players. Talk of Nunez going for 80m+ and Jude is fanciful given the summer asking price. Raphinha, Bowen and the likes aren’t gonna be much cheaper either so there’s gonna have to be some serious gem finding going on.

I’d suggest that knowing what our owners are like and the pattern we’ve seen over the last few years it’s a fair chance we’ll be keeping Keita and minamino (and possibly ox) given the “lack of value in the market”. In fact that probably means that once we get this Ramsay deal over the line as cover for Trent then we’ll be done for the summer.
