Liverpoolfc.tv Mark Gonzalez is hoping to return to first team action when the Reds take on Fulham at Anfield this weekend. The Chilean winger has not played since being stretchered off with a hamstring injury against PSV on November 22. "I'm working really hard to be fit as quickly as possible. Hopefully I'll be available to play this weekend," he said. ............ Probably a place on the bench then for that game with Garcia on the left and hope Pennant can build on his good showing from last night.

So who would I buy? If only it was that simple! First of all you have to look at the current make up of the squad and if the signing of ?superstars? is gonna up set the balance by not being able to keep all the current first 11 happy with even more rotation. The one area that I think we could improve is at RB as we currently have no proven cover there and Finnan is not getting any younger. Rafa is obviously keen on Alves but personally I?d go for Richards as he?s proven in the PL, younger, and can also play CB as well as RB and RW. LB also seems some people?s priority but we already have Riise there who?s gonna take some shifting and also Insua who is coming in January who, if reports are to be believed, could be ready for the first team very shortly. Yes Bale or Baines would be a great signing but is there any need for them or would we be buying them just cos we could? Also signing the likes of Kaka or Joaquin whilst extremely exciting would they add benefit to our 11? Now IMO Kaka would definitely but Joaquin? He?s hardly set the world alight the last 18 months and is struggling since his move to Valencia plus he?d have the added pressure of settling in a new country adapting to a different style of football. Also would he really be available to buy? Kaka on the other hand would be a great signing and the one ?big name? that I?d like us to sign, again, however unrealistic. He would provide that extra bit of creativity either drifting in from the right, left, centrally or playing just off the striker. The one downside would be who to drop to accommodate him but I think that would be an acceptable headache to have providing Rafa could keep everyone happy. Still it?d take mega bucks to sign him and we?d be up against the likes of Madrid and Chelsea for his signature and given Rafa?s policy on not paying over the odds or getting into a bidding war then it?ll be highly unlikely. Zenden is arguably in his last season with us so that would mean we?d need cover there to replace him. Again there?s no point in buying a star such as a Pirlo or a Gattusso who?d expect first team football straight away, rather someone like Fabregas who?s an up and coming player who can be eased into the team slowly but surely. As for a name I haven?t got one!! With Kewell?s injury problems and Aurelio seemingly lacking the quality and fitness record required to be our first choice LW then I?d look and getting in another LW. I know we have Gonzalez and he has shown glimpses of promise but is he gonna be the real deal? Time is on his side and hopefully he?ll prove what a quality player he is but if there was a chance of securing someone along the lines of Vicente (can?t think of too many other top class LWs that MIGHT be available) then I?d take that to provide us with 2 decent options down the left. As for the RW problem then IMO the signing of Kaka would solve that as both he and Gerrard could play out there, maybe not as wingers but certainly use that as their starting positions. However as I mentioned earlier he?s highly unlikely to join. : ( That leaves us with Pennant who IMO provides decent cover there and realistically is that all we need there? When Xabi, Momo and Gerrard are all fit Rafa has shown that 9 times outta 10 Gerrard will start on the right. If we were to buy a top class RW then that would mean one of them not playing and again a good headache to have but would it cause unnecessary problems? IMO we?re covered at CB with Carragher, Agger, Paletta and Hyypia not to mention the numerous youngsters we have there (and the signing of Richards!!), so that just means we need to look at our striking options. It looks like along with Zenden this could be Fowler?s last year so that means we need to look at getting in another striker. Again would buying a world class striker up set the likes of Bellamy and Crouch who are currently the 2nd/3rd choice strikers who would then be pushed would to 3rd/4th choice? Realistically how many world class strikers can you have at your club. Currently Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal only have 2 so if they can?t get away with it could we? If we could then I?d look to bring in someone like Villa or Huntelaar whose goal scoring record is top class.

Liverpoolfc.tv did a feature on him here: Danny Guthrie: The Big Interview One of the questions: For fans who haven't seen you play, describe what kind of player you are? I'm an attacking midfielder who passes the ball and works hard. There's also some info on him from this news artcile from liverpoolfc.tv

Good to hear that Arda Turan is suspended cos he was causing all sorts of problems for our left sided players and whipping in some great crosses. I?d use this game for giving youngsters some experience and getting first teamers who have missed a few games due to injuries, court cases etc match fit. This is a good chance to give the fringe/youth players an incentive to do well and try and force their way into the first team squad so it?ll be good to see how they respond. As for the line up I?d go with: Dudek Peltier Paletta Agger Riise Pennant Guthrie Alonso Garcia Bellamy Fowler I?d definitely look to bring on Anderson at some point and also spare a few of Agger, Riise, Alonso, Bellamy and Garcia too much exertion.

Just think we need a it of experience/composure in CM and maybe give Xabi some match fitness.

Sky Reds to trial Finn starlet By Jonne Ylanne - Created on 30 Aug 2006 Liverpool have invited Finnish starlet Lauri Dalla Valle over to Anfield for a trial. Dalla Valle is regarded as one of the best young talents to ever come out of Finland. The 14-year-old was snapped up by Italian giants Internazionale last year, but the youngster failed to settle in Italy. Dalla Valle returned to Finland after just a few months in Milan and his progress has caught the attention of a host of clubs. Liverpool are now ready to offer the teenager the chance to win a move to Anfield by offering him a trial. Dalla Valle is expected to arrive in England next month so that Liverpool's coaching staff can cast an eye over him in training before deciding whether or not to pursue their interest. Liverpool.no say he scored 80 goals and had 77 assists in 40 games last season

If Guthrie's gonna get a shot in the first team then he should be played tomorrow as his league debut would be a home game against an average side regardless of their start to the season not to mention they too have players out. If he starts tomorrow then at least he'll have some confidence and maybe less nerves when going into either the away game at Wigan on the weekend or the away game to Galatasaray next week. If he doesn't play then I'd have to say Agger would be the obvious choice ahead of Carragher due to the reasons mentioned already. Plus IMO Sami and Carragher will have a better undestanding at CB than Agger and Hyypia.

Didn't Blackburn want Warnock in exchange for Neil in the summer? If so maybe that deal could be resurected in January.

Van Basten's isn't bad either:

I don't think he mentioned any names either!

He's been likened to Ronaldo at MU and from what you've described there's some more evidence!

It was certainly in a home game last season and Gerrard, Rafa etc were all watching and weren't overly impressed as you could imagine!

Loved the way he dummied the attacker on that back pass and calmly played the ball out to one of the defenders. Such a cool head and shows he's got his confidence back. He had an air about him last night and dominated his area well with some good claims and punches. I also love the way that when he knows an attacker is off side yet they still shoot he just makes and nonchalant save as if saying "Whatever!". He did that last night where he just put his right arm up and made the save!

Never mind this competition he's only 3 away from equalling Owen's record of most European goals which he could quite easily do this season. Looking at the stats, can you beleive Heskey has more European goals than the likes of Fowler, Keegan and Dalglish!! LFC History
