It would be far from a simple deal and probably be massively overpriced so no chance of our lot getting any kind of deal sorted at all let alone within 2 weeks.
I do find it amusing in an ironic way that we have this sell to buy strategy but are very happy to let players leave on a free (or demand ridiculous fees for players who are never going to play) which then impacts our ability to spend.
“Outside the premier league” could also mean the championship. Burnley just got relegated and we know we like a signing from a relegated club, step forward sander berge who we’ve been linked with before and will probably be available at a fraction of the cost than the likes of zubimendi etc.
Think it was more that Utd went for bIg NaMeZ and those who were marketable/fashionable for the commercial revenue they could bring to the club. Some of those were perceived world class given the media spotlight that they held at the time or in the past.
We’ve got 3 academy lads at left back, Calum scanlon who’s 19, Luke chambers, 20, who’s going to Wigan on loan and Owen beck who’s nearly 22 but has a successful loan up in Scotland last year. Not sure any of them are ready to replace robbo though.
For me we ideally will need:
A back up keeper as it’s likely Kelleher will leave as he wants first team footy. Could look to bring in a top prospect with an eye in them replacing alisson in a couple of years or so
Succession planning at centre back for virg so bring in some new top prospect who can learn the ropes.
Succession planning at left back for robbo so again bring in someone who’s a top prospect and can cover robbo as and when needed. This would mean shifting tsimikas on.
A specialist top quality starting number 6. That would increase the numbers we have in midfield and may mean we’d have to sell someone.
Succession planning for salah so bring in the next up and coming left footed right winger.
Unless something unexpected happen like Trent not signing a deal and us selling him or we lose one of the front men then I think we ideally could do with the 5 positions above but I don’t expect that to happen especially given slot will want time to assess things as well as the fact FSG don’t operate that way.
If he’s leaving next summer for nothing I’d sell him now if possible. Criminal that we let players leave for free, especially one that could bring in a sizeable fee and sales seems to be how we fund any purchases.
You’d like to think that we’ve saved quite a bit in wages this summer what with Thiago Matip and Adrian leaving and slot won’t be on nearly as much as klopp.
He also seems very similar in style in macallister, more a technical deep lying playmaker, who will dictate play from central areas and break forward when he can.
After starmer’s comments about celebrating as a nation if we win it and that means an extra bank holiday I’m all for England winning this any which way how.
I can see some logic behind not having Trent in as wing back for a Southgate side. He’s going to be asked to put in one hell of a shift up and down the right side which takes away his creativity and him wanting to be on the ball. Either that or asked to play very deep and alongside the right centre back That’s just not his game in either respect. He’ll also want to come inside to get on the ball to an already congested central area and mean no width out wide right.
EDIT: Ignore that, thought we’d gone 3-4-3 with wing backs!!
