Your post is generally very true. However, you threw it all away in a moment of madness with the word highlighted above. Also, he's 26 now, so I wouldn't bank on him becoming Maldini through coaches.

Were you watching the same game as the rest of us? The Hollywood balls were coming off beautifully. The work rates was fantastic. He was a 1 man central midfield in the 2nd half as Gerrard was all over the place trying to get a goal (which was a good thing). He was magnificent.

Or put it this way - I think we should pretend Fowler isn't there when we make our striking decisions and purchases in the summer. I'd be happy for him to stay on a pay as you play basis if that's fine with him. But there should be 4 strikers ahead of him in the pecking order.

Garcia scores goals out of the blue independent of how the rest of his game is on the night. That's why he gets to stay on even when he's playing poorly.

Last season we were genuinely getting beaten in games. It very rarely happens these days. I think we've improved tremendously, and as soon as we get a good striker or two and a RW we'll be really challenging. Think back to all the results, I can only think of 5 games that we didn't dominate and deserve to win. Those are: Bolton (A) - Draw Chelsea (H) - Loss Chelsea (A) - Loss Fulham (A) - Loss Charlton (A) - Loss That would be 14 points dropped in 28 games if we had strikers that could just put the ball into the back of the net. If we could do something like that next season we could have 65-70 points after 28 games next season. Chelsea currently have 72 and it's probably safe to assume they'll have a similar amount next season at this point. But if we're in the neighborhood around this time, within 5-7 points, you never know what could happen.

I don't think it's unrealistic at all. The only problem with Owen coming back (in footballing terms) is that he's injured a lot when he's the regular starting striker. So for a good 3 months of the season, we'd be limited to Crouch, Fowler, and Pongolle. There's some considerable uncertainty in the strike rate of our strikers in that scenario. Granted they can't do any worse than this year.

I love Garcia. I think he's worth keeping for Europe alone. But IMO, his best position day in, day out is as an impact sub - the first man off the bench. And of course he'll get some starts at Anfield. In the long term, he's probably not going to be happy with that after seeing his star rise last year and breaking into the national team properly. I hope he stays though.

Ronaldinho is not at his peak though...

I hate to be a drama queen about it, but I seriously believe it all rests on his shoulders. We must get 2 goals in the first half if we hope to avoid a second half of frustration due to Benfica diving 45 minutes off the clock as they did against United.
