Yeah, but from another pov, where Isak places his foot is entirely predicable and not unusual at all so van der venn’s challenge is reckless and endangers his opponent. I think if Isak misses or the goalie saves it’s a pen and a red card.

Considering it's such a small sample size there are stats that will show anything. It's undeniable though that if you look at big chances created for and against and XG during the really bad run, we were on the end of some bad luck at both ends. Especially to begin with. The rot started at Chelsea where we could have easily won or drawn for instance. You make your own luck etc, etc, but when you're on a downward spiral that's the hardest thing to do.

Yes, but the stats underlying why they’ve scored more goals and we haven’t scored more goals are outlying. we’ve been unlucky at both ends.

yeah, that's true but our expectations have been skewed somewhat during the poor run. Most of those games we finished with a higher XG than teams we lost against, just that we were conceding higher XG chances and they were being scored at a higher than XG rate and we were missing ours. We've started to concede lower XG chances and finishing against us has dropped somewhat accordingly but also from a higher than average rate. And we've started scoring a few more.

I agree there should be something that means the VAR isn't just going backwards re-reffing but clear and obvious just isn't it. It just distracts from the real purpose helping the ref not make a pigs ear of it and means there's two refs to make a pigs of it. They should be working together to reach a correct decision not asking one to second guess the other.

Clear and obvious isn't fit it that's the purpose though because it doesn't stop VARs from going back and back. If that's the purpose, just put a limit on it much like phases of play in offside. That's crap too but at least it's more demonstrable and understandable than having a VAR guess if the ref saw something or might think it's a foul or not which is just nonsense and nothing to do with the game of football.
