He might do now, but didn't he try and buy Morientes in summer 04 and eventually got him in Jan 05? And Crouch he seemed to want badly enough to eventually cough up what Lowe was asking for him. This would belie the argument used that Rafa won't pay over the odds for players (he doesn't really want).

There are other strikers in the queue for the exit before Crouch. We already need to buy two new strikers and can't see Rafa spending whatever budget he has on 3. If he gets Kuyt and Owen, Crouch will probably be 3rd choice striker next season.

Knew you'd bite. I still maintain Cisse has played more times on the right than as a central striker since the Super Cup (ie since about mid September). Yes, he has played as a striker and you did come up with an impressive list of games where you think he was played as a striker. Quite a few of them were games before the Super Cup though. The last two games? On the right I think.... You think I'm spouting drivel, I think likewise about your "stats". Suppose we'll have to agree to disagree. I think one thing we will probably agree on is that he will be gone come the summer, so not much point in "discussing" it any further.

What do you mean? According to some of the "experts" on here Rafa doesn't play Cisse out on the right. If Rafa is going to give Cisse a run of games up front (and let's face it, he's hardly going to do any worse than Morientes is he?), I would have thought Arsenal is the game for him. Arsenal are going to come at us and we are going to need some pace up front to try and keep them on the back foot. We only have Cisse who can break into more than a trot. Failing that my four year old is available for selection.

I think Crouch has been a reasonable buy for us, but think £5.5 mill to 6 mill would have been a fairer price for him. I just get a bit tired with all this "Rafa won't be ripped off in the transfer market" bollix that is spouted by a wide variety of people. Sure he's got a certain amount of money to spend and has to budget accordingly, but the price of players are dictated by the selling club and if he wants them badly enough he will cough up the extra. He clearly wanted Crouch and agreed to pay more than he was originally offering (and yes I do understand the theory of negotiations). Morientes is a bit tongue in cheek and it is very easy to criticise with the benefit of hindsight.

Perhaps Cisse is to blame for us not having a new stadium as well? Oh, and Rafa doesn't play Cisse on the right does he? Hard luck Robbie, 3rd time lucky against Benfica?
