  7. I think this is pretty accurate.

  9. Cause cameras, among other things, militate against the "simplicity" of the game. For some, it's important that the game played at the highest level be as close as possible an approximation to that played at much lower levels. 99.9% of all games of football are played in pretty basic conditions, and it's not like goal line cameras could ever be used in these circumstances. I suppose the thinking with using the extra officials is that it's at least reproducible on the African Savannah or some such. And personally, I quite enjoyed seeing Chelsea having a perfectly good goal disallowed yesterday cause the officials couldn't keep up with play.
  10. I'd plump for £40m plus a low mileage 2004 Damian Duff.
  11. I've seen them play in three finals, and they've not deserved to win any of them, yet they won two of them, so today was really sweet.
  12. Mascherano Gerrard Alonso
  13. Prior to this season I wasn't convinced about Rafa and the league. But, f***, we were good. Two points dropped since old trafford? Am sufficiently young to say that the last two months are undoubtedly the best I've ever seen us play.
  14. tis something go do with "large numbers".

  16. Aye. We've been so good since the game at Middlesbrough that this type of shyte loses all its bite.
  17. He's a nice footballer, but he's clearly touched in the head. Where would we play him?
  18. I also think the yawning disparity between the big and small clubs is a bad thing and is probably a sign of the slow death of football as we've known it. Or something equally pessimistic. I've grown to admire the vaguely egalitarian way in which North American sports have a more level playing field. All the teams seem to get a chance eventually, yet the teams with the strong traditions and support always seem to have a slight but not insurmountable edge. I think we'd thrive in such conditions. Not sure whether it's even remotely feasible at this point.

  20. Alves was poor all night but twas a lovely cross. An even better finish. All the sweeter given that they waited 92 minutes to produce any football of note.

  22. He looked awkward alright. But given his starting position am pretty sure he used the appropriate hand. Essien's clearance was undoubtedly school-boy-stuff.
  23. It was sufficiently close enough for the attacking player to deserve the benefit of the doubt. The linesman was correct not to rule him offside at the time, even if subsequent super-slow-mo-canalplus-replays show he was 6 inches off. Case closed.
  24. - The attacking team not getting the benefit of the doubt for close offside calls. - Gutless linesmen who ignore blatant foul play right in from them... as in Bosingwa on Yossi at anfield in the league. - Players taking it upon themselves to stop the game after some cheating c*** goes down "injured". - The fact that after 150 years they still haven't worked out a transparent and consistent way to accurately track the amount of time to be played in a game of football. - Rio Ferdinand
