I would have gone for O'Neill. He would have been good aswell, but Rafa (who I was pretty unaware of) has been great, so good job all round. Toshack, Curbishley, Allardyce would all have been out of their depth and stunk the place out.

Smartly taken penalty aside, Fowler was rubbish, though not as bad as the disinterested and consistently wrong Kromkamp. Everybody underperformed today. That said, Agger was decent, but Momo was clearly the top man today with a quiet though impressively effective performance, constantly nipping in to win the ball and his passing seems to have improved nicely since last year. He looks quality. Aurelio saw a lot of the ball, and despite a moment of criminal negligence in defense, offered a few glimpses of composure and thoughtfulness (something which the hardworking and honest JAR lacks...get well soon lad).

You could have penalties all the way up to the final, preventing the farce of one of the finalists playing a five hour semi-final 4 days before the final. But for the final, remove the option of winning on penalties. It's the biggest prize in the game, make them win it properly. Even if they have to play till their legs falls off. And there should be no dicking about with removing a player every 2 minutes. No gimmicks, keep it simple, change the rules as little as possible; you can't win the World Cup Final by playing for penalties, you play 30 minutes of extra time and then if needed you go to sudden death, and whoever wants it the most and scores first in sudden death wins the the World Cup.

I agree Materazzi "looks" like a right c*** and probably deserved far worse. As for Zidane, he was a peerless player and a tough f***** right till the end. What a way to finish a great career... it'll only add to his legend. Brilliant.

That`s b****x. First off, S&M aren't nobodies, Holland only narrowly edged them out, and they qualified ahead of Spain. And secondly, you see mismatched teams playing each other every other week, yet you never see the stronger team play THAT well. They were f***ing brilliant, and it had little to do with S&M.

Having just read the Guardian article G14 are clearly stupid c****. They're going to kill the game if they their selfish short-sighted way.
