  1. couple of edit points: Didi - if he goes we need a player who can sit in front of the defence to cover Alonso, but who can also be effective higher up the pitch. Not an easy thing to find, especially assuming we're not flush, and with much higher priorities, so really hoping Didi stays for another year at least. Finally - the youngsters. There's only Barragan and Anderson at the moment that I see as having real possiblities for next year, and I would hope that Anderson at least gets a bit of a run out - if you're good enough and all that. Owen/Gerrard/Fowler/Stevie Mac/Rooney/Giggs were all playing at 17/18 so he needs to make the push on soon. Could he save us having to buy a RM? Probably not just yet, although we could maybe take a Figo type on a bosman for a year or 2 to teach him a few things and ease him in to be a regular first teamer by Aug 2007. If Rafa does spend big on a RM, then I can't see many 'bargain' strikers knocking about, so I'd expect only 1 striker signing with Robbie and either Moro or Pongo staying,
  2. I'm expecting to see Djimi, Dudek, Kirkland, Cisse and Moro go out of the current first team, plus the loanees (possibly not 'the gems') Coming in I'm expecting the 'agreed' players plus a RW and 1 or 2 strikers of differing syles (ideally 1 pacy, 1 creative/skilful). If any more first teamers do leave then I'm expecting replacements: Didi - if he goes we need a player who can sit in front of the defence to cover Alonso, but who can also be effective higher up the pitch. Not an easy thing to find, especially assuming we're not flush, so really hoping Didi stays for another year at least. Kromkamp - if he leaves as rumoured then can't complain at a possible £1m profit on Josemi, but he looks like he could be a good young player. No problem with Finnan for a year or 2 easily, but cover is needed and I don't know if Barragan is ready yet, so I'll be waiting to see here. If he does go, anyone at Ajax we fancy in a swap? Moro - opinion seems more divided recently, which makes me wonder if he will stay. Personally I think its best if he leaves - the goals he's scored have mostly been class goals as we expected at the start (Charlton away, Fulham at anfield, Boro home, and the Villa opener) and these make you wonder. However he just hasn't done it consistently, and if he did stay he'd be 4th choice behind Fowler in my book. He's also not that mobile, and there's not much he can do that I wouldn't expect from Crouch/Fowler. Add that to the fact that he's still relatively saleable, certainly back to Spain, but in a years time he's older, shorter contract, and reputation further diminished (possibly), then I think now is the best time to get rid. 18 months is plenty of time to judge - what's gonna be any different next year? All of this though, is assuming Robbie gets a new contract: Robbie - Definitely worth a 1 year contract in my view, with an optional extention built in. This would free us to sell Moro and raise some cash (and wages), but if Robbie goes I can't see us buying 3 strikers in the summer, mainly due to finances. Robbie will also offer us a bit more continuity - 3 new strikers trying to settle in could leave us struggling with Crouch not exactly prolific. 'Les Gems' - I'd like them to stay, if only because we could be losing class players and Pongo at least could be an option for us, especially if Moro does go and money is tight. Both can play right mid - I'd like to see Pongo get a proper go there - and if they do come good then it could be a real result (see the 'strikers needed' point at the top). For me, these 2 are worth a risk for 1 more season at least, unless there are off the pitch issues or really good bids. As for the much debated transfer budget, I'll be very surprised if we spend more than £25-30m total. I think Pennant is worth a risk, as long as he agrees to some stringent discipline clauses - he looks as good as any RM in the league, and is proven in the prem in a team where he is the dangerman and tighter marked. Imagine if he a had more space and a bit less attention? Also wouldn't cost a lot (£5m?), and there are no other outstanding candidates at a decent price. That'd leave £20m ish for the two strikers, or even just 1 new striker with Luis, Gerrard, Harry to play in the hole as needed, plus those gems that need a polish. I feel that the above is realistic, if we can raise at least £10m from player sales. Fingers crossed it comes true!
  3. Just at anfield, or at every last match? seems like a funny idea, and good for a laugh. Makes me wonder though if some reds turned up like that for an away game - i get the feeling they'd be classed as nobheads.
  4. everyone i know, esp in the Albert, sing 'Ian Rush Roger Hunt, he's the best of the bunch' either way, good song! anyone have any gossip/thoughts re: a new contract? I'd hope it's pretty nailed on - will save us having to look for 1 more striker in the summer, and seems a simple option for another year at least.
  5. This was sung in the Albert fo the first time on Sat, by the Annie Road crew in the corner, in response to the Steve Finnan song. On it's own the traore song is good, but what was going on on Sat was half the pub singing 'we've got a right back called Steve Finnan', then the other half coming back with the Traore song. Makes more sense as it's kind of a second verse. Went on like that for ages and was really funny, to be finished off with 'we all dream' Ace!
  6. nobody? I'll cancel them over the weekend if i don't hear.
