If he is likely to win us big trophies then I want him here, if not then I don’t. Don’t care which club’s crest he has on his duvet cover.
-
I think Alonso comes to us in the summer.
-
Absolutely. But I think a similar thing happened to him when he first moved to Brighton. Obviously back then he was young and adapting to a new league, so it wasn’t as mad a development. But maybe it’s just something in him. Maybe he keeps losing the magic boots that he found in his grandfather’s attic.
-
That was shouting for him to be sacked though. Also chanting “Dalglish”.
-
Late contender for post of the year.

Why are we always calling each c**** then hmm?
-
See this gets a like. And that’s why the DoF role is bulls***. They get to f*** up royally twice before there’s any consequence.
-
Yeah I’m not bothered about that contract situation really. I was mostly responding to something more general you said about Hughes getting s*** from day one, but I can’t find it now, maybe you edited it.
-
Ok well those things weren’t hypothetical, they’ve literally already happened. So I think it’s fair to give Hughes some s***. Maybe those things will all improve and then we can give him some more credit.
-
This is exactly the structural issue I’m talking about. I can’t see any sequence of events that could occur that would mean Hughes had clearly done a bad job. He buys a load of very expensive players and they don’t perform? Not his fault. He appoints a set piece coach and we are dreadful at set pieces? Not his fault. The manager he appointed is losing loads of matches? Not his fault. That’s exactly why the role attracts spoofers, it’s perfect for them. Maybe he isn’t one, I admit I’m just going off vibes. But inevitably you will get spoofers in that role at some point.
-
So Hughes gets to take the credit for Slot’s success, but if we go to s*** then he’s not to blame?
-
Edwards is a good data guy but we’ve no idea if he’s Chief Exec material and this structure looks designed to please FSG, who love an org chart. I get bad spoofer vibes off Hughes, which tbf I get off almost every DoF. He got a lot of transfer business done in the summer and I’m not suggesting he’s lazy or that he can’t make a deal. But I am far from convinced he should be the number one football ma at Liverpool FC. TBH I think the football should be overseen by someone who lives and dies by match day results.
-
Specialist coaches are fine but they should answer to Slot, and he should be able to overrule them. But now we have multiple layers of bulls***. The Chief Exec sets up this stupid structure but he can’t be held responsible because he’s just a desk jockey. The DoF signs the players and the coaches but he can’t be held responsible because he doesn’t pick or coach or motivate the team. The Head Coach can’t be held responsible because he doesn’t buy the players and isn’t even in charge of the set pieces. Nonsense.
-
If it’s true that we have found ourselves in a situation where the Head Coach isn’t responsible for some of the goals we concede and score, because the coach beneath him has his own remit and is directly appointed by the DoF, then we (presumably Edwards) have f***ed up the structure of the club. And I’m starting to think Edwards as CEO might also be a square peg in a round hole. And that would be on FSG. I know some people absolutely bum them and won’t hear a word against them, and it’s true that we’ve had great success under them and expanded the stadium etc, so they’re not all bad, but they do have form for exactly this sort of f***up. Don’t really know why I’ve posted this as a reply to you Swipe as it’s not really about your post, but I’m in it now and can’t be bothered to do it differently.
-
Worked out well didn’t it. If I hired someone to do an important job, and had to sack them a few months later, I’d accept some of the blame.
-
Yeah, really thought we’d get him in 98 and again in 2001.
-
I was certain we’d get Sol Campbell, it just seemed so obvious.
-
And Bergkamp!
-
Looks like you are tbh.

I’d have always been alright with us finishing 4th this season, said so in the summer, but some people thought that was nowhere near good enough (and fair play to them). It looked for a while there like we were heading for relegation, and I thought we needed to urgently make a change, but that’s no longer the case. As things stand, if we keep up our results then we will get top 4. But whether we do that or not depends on whether our performances improve and there’s no way of knowing. Either way, I doubt he will make us great in the coming seasons so would take another great manager if there was one available. But there’s probably not right now. So in conclusion — don’t know. Glad it’s not my job to decide.

There’s a spell every season where the journos, pundits and d****ead fans go mental about Chelsea.

This is a perfectly pitched post. Almost metamodernist. Finnan and Johnson are at exactly the right level where it’s impossible to tell whether you are being sarcastic when you refer to them as “greats”.
-
You’re like Dion Dublin or Chris Sutton.

Get your boots out the loft.
