I don’t believe they’ll be throwing games, no.
But it is possible for managers to create an environment where good players become bad. We’ve seen it happen before.
Yeah, I mean human brains are more complicated than we try to make them seem. It won’t be quite as clearcut as “the manager has lost them”. But that’s a convenient shorthand for what is going on with some of them at least.
I agree, he’s engaging in the soap opera because he’s paid to. It’s a pretty basic form of entertainment and it’s fine to find it all a bit tacky. But I can’t really blame Carragher for doing it.
Which clubs do this successfully? Have a stable DoF, a style of football that doesn’t change when managers change, and consistent success without frequent overhauls of the squad?
I’m not suggesting they don’t exist, I’m legit interested.
I’m not saying Hughes is responsible for our current malaise, maybe he is and maybe he isn’t. But I do know that if we were top of the league and the signings were flying, he’d be gladly taking the credit.
And who are they to decide a philosophy, when they’ve never coached a team?
And what happens when their philosophy is wrong? You have to sack them and rebuild the club, same as you would if a manager had set the philosophy.
The players don’t all go when a manager is sacked either.
I know the idea with a DoF model is that there is continuity, but it rarely works that way. A new Head Coach comes in and he has different ideas and needs different players.
