I think it's really unfortunate this is happening before the biggest game of the season, away in Italy no less. If this had happened before the Newcastle game it probably wouldn't have even been reported.

I can't believe Rafa hasn't sign an attacking player
Anfield Fox replied to RafaShanks's topic in Liverpool FC
Defoe is nothing like Cisse. He was just never given a proper chance at Spurs and even then his goal ratio was 1 in 3 even though most of those were as Subs. He'll be huge at Pompey and for £7m that was a steal. Worst case scenario he would have beenbetter than Crouch, Kuyt and Voronin combined. -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7217238.stm Liverpool supporters are to launch an ambitious plan to buy the football club from its current American owners. US tycoons George Gillett and Tom Hicks recently finalised a £350m refinancing of the club which they bought in 2007. But the Share Liverpool FC Group is to reveal plans for a buy-out of the club by 100,000 Reds fans around the world. The model proposed will be a Barcelona style, "member-share" scheme, aimed at raising £500m to purchase the club from its US owners and build a new stadium. As well as UK-based fans, a website will be launched to attract interest from Liverpool's supporter base around the world, particularly in East Asia. Club refinancing Those behind the move are football business lecturer and Liverpool fan Rogan Taylor, former director of communications at the Premier League Phil French, and lawyer Kevin Jacquiss - an expert in launching co-operatives. "The time is right to offer a different solution to the rising concerns that football fans have about the patterns of ownership developing at our major football clubs," said Mr Taylor, who is director of the Football Industry Group at the University of Liverpool. Full details of how the fans' group hopes to buy the club will be revealed later on Thursday, although the initial figures seem to suggest an investment per supporter of £5,000 each. Thousands of Liverpool fans have already demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs Rogan Taylor, Share Liverpool FC Group Many Liverpool supporters have been unhappy at the recent uncertainty surrounding the refinancing of the club. After much delay, and reports that either one or both of the owners was willing to sell a stake to Dubai's DIC, a refinancing deal was signed last week with the Royal Bank of Scotland and US bank Wachovia. Tom Hicks confirmed to the BBC last week that of the £350m refinancing package, £105m of that will be debt tied to the club. Of that total, £45m will be used for future player transfers and to meet the club's working capital needs, and the remaining £60m is thought to be free for start-up money for a new Liverpool stadium. However, some supporters are unhappy about debt being placed on to the club, and there is also a perception that the owners' support for manager Rafa Benitez has not been as strong as it might. Debt burden "Thousands of Liverpool fans have already demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs," said Mr Taylor. "Large amounts of debt often devolves onto clubs newly purchased, but the fans know that in the end, it will be they themselves who will have to pay it off through increased ticket prices and other schemes. George Gillett (left) and Tom Hicks after taking over at Anfield All looked rosy when the US duo took over in early 2007 "In such a case, why not simply buy the club yourselves?" He said that many fans were unaware that there were other ways of financing and taking ownership of big clubs. Mr Taylor said that in Germany and Spain most top-level football clubs were not for sale as they were owned by many thousands of "member fans". "The Champions League has been won on six occasions in the last 15 years by clubs owned and run in such a way," he said. Barcelona, which won the Champions League in 2006, is owned by its 100,000 fan-members. Stadium plan Earlier this month a survey carried out by the Liverpool Supporters' network showed that 76% of 2,000 fans questioned said they would "seriously consider reducing their financial commitment to the club" if the current owners stayed in charge. When asked to choose between the owners and the manager as to who had the best interest of the club at heart, 99% backed Benitez. However, Tom Hicks and George Gillett have insisted that they are fully behind manager Rafael Benitez. They also say the club plans to build the 71,000-seat venue close to Anfield in Stanley Park in time for the 2011-12 season.

I think there are 2 truely world class managers that are currently employed. One is Cappello and the other is Guus Hiddink. No chance of Fabio but Guus after Euro 2008?
-
Not sure where it went wrong. He was great in his first season. The new Veira apparently. Oh well, t'was step up on Sally D, our last "new Veira". Bye Momo. Always liked ya. Good luck.

I loved Milan (and Paddy B).

Question to all the Riise haters. Do you think he WAS a very good player, especially under Ged and up until we won the European Cup? If so why do you think he has lost the plot? Players get worse with age, it's normal. However he should be at the peak of his game at 27. I used to think he was one of the best left backs in the league. Could defend. Great going forward. Scored lots of goals. Amazing free kicks. Never the best crosser but not bad either. Where has it gone wrong? You don't turn s*** over night and it's not like he's been injury plagued or had problems off the pitch that we know about.
-
Not tempting fate but that's 3 great draws in a row. The potential to sneak into the last 8 is for the taking. Finish in the top 4 and win the cup and it wouldn't be so bad.

Kewell's contract is up in the summer. Free.
-
I think it's just a pronunciation thing mate. Can't hate him for that. Even if he is a c***.
-
Non impact. In the sense we've had him for 18 months. We spend £17m and you expect to improve the team in a major way, like Torres in the summer for example. We sign Masch and we're not going to improve the team at all. It's not going to get us any extra points. However the juxtaposition is if we don't sign him it will hurt us in a big way. We loose points. It's the problem with loan signings. You have them for a year and then you begin thinking their yours. Damned if we do and blow most of our transfer budget, damned if we don't.

What's really scary is we're playing Inter in a couple of weeks.

oh f*** off

babbel up front. been waiting for that to happen for months. paws crossed.

Ain't that the truth! When did the whole stadium move become official? 99 or 2000 wasn't it? Every year or so we get new plans, new promises, new applications, and a new opening date. It's getting ridiculous. No doubt it looks great, i just don't believe it anymore. This saga makes the building of the new Wembley look like a a stroll in the park.

An update on the BBC article added the following. Isn't this the same survey we did on the site a few days ago? Nice work guys. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ool/7203724.stm A survey carried out by the Liverpool Supporters' network showed that 76% of 2,000 fans questioned said they would "seriously consider reducing their financial commitment to the club" if the current owners stayed in charge. When asked to choose between the owners and the manager as to who had the best interest of the club at heart, 99% backed Benitez. "The results of this survey are indicative of the strength of feeling among Liverpool fans that the club is very much in the wrong hands at present," said LSN spokesman Neil Atkinson. "Tom Hicks and George Gillett are not trusted."

At this point, who cares? It's not like he is going to come in now because he is at City, at least until he is arrested. Are you asking who is the lesser of two evils?? Sorry, just a bit pointless really.
-
I believe that quote is old, possibly not long after they came in. There were some here that expected the clowns to sell their other sports "franchises" when they came over. I know these to are minted but enough to sustain 4 clubs between them? On top of everything else they own?? I don't think so.
-
I saw that quote earlier and felt sick in the stomach. didn't have time to post and was actually going to do that now. I'm surprised that quote was never common knowledge since it's a year old. I do keep up with everything and it's the first i saw of it. It shows a total lack of respect for the club and the fans taking our money and putting it into a baseball team 4000 miles away that no one here gives a s*** about.
-
The question i would have liked to have seen is "would lfc supporters be prepared to give the current owners a second chance". Presuming they refuse to sell, what would it take for the fans to accept them? If they came out, apologized for the adultery, handed Rafa a new contract and a large transfer kitty, pledged not to saddle the debt on the club, to sort out the stadium within a reasonable time scale and promised to spend more time in Liverpool. Would that be enough? It was what they promised when they came in and haven't delivered. I don't think they ever will now but if they came out tomorrow with the points i've outlined then i for one would give them a second chance.

Keegan new newcastle manager
Anfield Fox replied to anny road's topic in General Football Discussion
I don't know why everyone here seems to hate Newcastle and want them to fail. Just look at the list of Liverpool legends connected with them. Keegan, Dalglish, Souness, McDermott, Owen, Rush, Barnes, etc. Some people seem to have sour grapes over the Owen move. Anyway with regards to Keegan's return to Newcastle i think it's a very good move for them. Their an impatient lot and everyone knows a manager needs time to get it right and they will give that to him. The owners will give him the money to spend. He is their Kenny after all. I know he didn't do well after Fulham but they played some great stuff under him in the mid-nineties. A joy to watch. I wish him luck. -
I was thinking about this only the other day. That in football the chairmen are damned if they do, damned if they don't. On one hand it is morally wrong and frowned upon to approach other managers with a view to taking over if the current manager hasn't been sacked yet. On the other hand their damned if they sack their manager with no one lined up. It's a catch 22 situation. Regardless this should never have happened, the fact that they were conspiring to boot him is shocking and the fact that it was in November when we were playing well is even worse. It's clear they don't want him. He'll be gone in the summer and we will suffer for it.
