Euro 2008 Has Been Boss
Anfield Fox replied to Knox_Harrington 's topic in General Football Discussion
Those last two minutes were insane. Made it worth sitting through the other 118 minutes. -
Doesn't sound like a man desperate to leave and with 4 years left on his contract im at a loss as to why we are doing this. http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverp...64375-21109852/

All the press reports have Villa priced at £20-25m. Is it just me or if a club gets him at that price it would be a complete steal, similar to what we did with Torres last season? If Crouch is worth £10m then Villa should be worth £50m. His record since 2005 when he joined Valencia and made his international debut: Valencia 101 (58) Spain 33 (18)

I would bite their hands off for £8m. It's amazing that some people think £8m is pocket change now. 12 years ago it was the British transfer record when we signed Stan. He has 1 year left on his contract. He will hardly get a game. Sell him and use it towards a player we need. Besides it is a small profit and lets not forget if we keep him we'll be paying his wages every week so it is more than £8m. In all honesty he should have been sold last summer when we could have gotten closer to £15m.

Portsmouth set to bid £8million for Peter Crouch By Paul Smith 15/06/2008 Portsmouth will table an £8million bid for Liverpool striker Peter Crouch within 48 hours. The lanky England marksman - who was sold by Pompey boss Harry Redknapp to Aston Villa when he took charge at Fratton Park, and later played under him at arch-rivals Southampton - has been at the top of his summer wish-list. The FA Cup winners will make their move in an attempt to stave off growing interest from, ironically, Villa. Martin O'Neill is demanding that Crouch is included in a deal that would eventually pave the way for England midfielder Gareth Barry to move to Anfield. Advertisement Liverpool have tried to ease the 27-year-old striker's frustrations by offering him a new contract to stay at the club. But after starting just seven Premier League games last season following the arrival of Fernando Torres, Crouch and his advisers refused to commit his long-term future to the club, prompting Liverpool to put a £15m price tag on his head. Despite growing interest in Crouch from Pompey's rivals, Redknapp remains in the box seat to land his signature. Crouch has always credited Redknapp with reviving his career when he was languishing in the Saints reserves. While his prolific form in front of goal failed to stave off relegation, it paved the way for him to break into the England squad and seal a £7.5m move to Liverpool in the summer of 2005. Portsmouth also hope to pull off the £4m capture of Manchester City captain Richard Dunne, who last night rejected an improved offer to stay at Eastlands. http://www.sundaymirror.co.uk/sport/footba...98487-20608391/

Chelsea in for Torres. £40m apparently. Recycled from earlier in the week with quotes from a Chelsea "insider". http://blogs.notw.co.uk/sport/2008/06/40m-torres-for.html

True but not overnight and there was a lot of tugging going on trying to change his mind which is what Villa are doing. It was a long and drawn out process. Besides i still think the decision should ultimately rest with the club. If a player signs a contract he should honour it. He has a right to privately to tell his employer he would rather move but he doesn't or at least shouldn't have the right to demand it. Plastic Ronaldo seems to be doing the same thing at Utd.
-
I know it's frustrating for us but surely the club has every right to reject as many bids as they want. We could offer £100m and it's Villa's right to reject that. As much as i would like us to buy him for £10m and as much as i don't think he is worth much more i have noticed a lot of hypocrisy from our fans. Even if the player wants to leave, if he is contracted then the club has every right to deny it and make him sit on the stands for the next 2 years. I don't see any difference to this and Stevie 3 years ago. Player power is getting ridiculous and while Villa are milking this you can tell they don't want to sell him and that should be the end of it.

He's 28 in Feb where as Xabi is 27 in November.

In the last 10 minutes i have found out that he will be taking over as manager of Stoke City, that he is a big fan of Vanilla Ice and "Scolari was criticsed in 2001 for his links to the Russian mafia, and there was wide belief that Scolari has been involved in drug dealing."

Refreshing the Scolari wikipedia page every couple of minutes is hilarious after a big story like this breaks.

Liverpool 4th On Forbes Football Rich List
Anfield Fox replied to Anfield Fox's topic in Liverpool FC
Yes, we were 11th last season. -
#4 Liverpool 04.30.08, 6:00 PM ET England League: English Premiership www.liverpoolfc.tv Liverpool dominated English and European football in the 1960s through the 1980s under legendary manager Bill Shankley and his successors. However, the club is marred by the fatal disasters at the Heysel and Hillsborough stadiums in 1985 and 1989, which took the lives of 39 and 96 spectators, respectively. An unexpected European Champions title in 2004-05 cheered the Anfield faithful. less so the arrival of new American owners to fund a new stadium and team to keep pace in the Premiership with Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal. Team Value 1 $1,050 mil(€777 mil / £523 mil) http://www.forbes.com/business/2008/04/30/...occer_land.html

David Villa and Fernando Torres. It has the potential to be the best strike force in Europe and put the fear into any defense.
-
I couldn't believe it when they suggested that Aurelio should have proffesionaly fouled Walcott just after their goal and taken the yellow.
-
He should have a contract to manage our games against Utd. Get Spud for those two games every season as well.

No Masch ran half the length of the pitch to contest that decision. He was mouthing off all afternoon and it was the scenes after then sending off that was a disgrace. It shouldn't take half the team and the entire coaching staff to pull him off the pitch. It wasn't till Rafa talked some sense into him that he was dragged off. Just watch the FA double his ban tomorrow. I hope we fine him 2 weeks wages. Just not on.

Never seen a red loose it like that towards the ref. Shocking. Masch disgraced himself today.
