Not siding with Everton fans and their “it’s all a cover up”? Think you’re reading into that a bit much, it was just off the cuff. As Hassony says, when the ref is closer to the accused and you ask him did he hear anything and he says no, your team mates say no, they heard nothing either, you’ve been on a confrontational bender all match and just thrown the accused into hoarding, perhaps trying to calm down and get some perspective? It is an accusation after all that can't be taken lightly.

Well it does really, strictly speaking, until you bring your own assumptions to the table, as you've done above. I don’t think he was being malicious by the way, because my own assumption is that he's very unlikely to be that nasty, few people are. But I do think too more care should be taken before making allegations like this on something you think you might have heard.

There is loads of evidence according to the FA statement, not a lack of it. All of it demonstrating nothing was said. That means it’s 50-50 whether Holgate misheard or made it up, only he will know really. Everything that follows then is prejudice and supposition so of course fans will take partisan lines. Ultimately though Holgate made a baseless claim so I am siding with the Liverpool fans on this myself ...
