Scales is a good shout. He did reasonably well for us, but always seemed to have a niggling injury and wasn't as dominant as he might have been. Same could be true of Ruddock, actually. He could have been SO much better for us than he was, but he clearly didn't look after himself and was a core part of the so-called "Spice" boys. Perhaps his reputation was somewhat preserved by some cracking games, and particularly the third goal in the ManU 3-3 at Anfield. Strangely enough, this was also Clough's high point. I was at the World Cup in 94 and saw Babb in New York and Orlando and he was majestic. I think we signed him shortly afterwards, and he wasn't any more. My thought was that he was suited to a slower pace of game, which the heat of the U.S. brought out. McAteer also played for Ireland out there and was good, but he was another that never quite hit the heights at LFC, possibly because he was played right-back or right-mid when he really was a potentially solid central midfielder. Makes you think how lucky we are at Centre-Back now with Sami, Carra (and hopefully Dagger) and how lucky we were with Hansen, Thommo and Lawro. In between, with the possible exception of Mark Wright and Torben Piechnik no-one has really "owned" the jersey and the heart of the fans.
