  12. I'm Irish and I hope Chile stuff us 10-0 on Wednesday with "Speedy" (geddit? geddit?) getting 9 of em, the other being a complete f*** up by John O' Shea. ANYTHING to get those Voodoo Chile's into the top 2 of the FIFA Rankings before the summer is out.

  14. - Hnnn.... except the bench at the Millenium is on the other side of the pitch. Perhaps he was glaring into an impressively sized mirror he'd just had installed for the purpose of shooting "daggers" at the Manager who'd just picked him to start the Final. The b*stard.

    Defoe

I do, DH. A mate of mine who is a WHU season ticket holder was gutted when they lost Defoe, much more gutted than when either Lampard or Cole or, going back, Ince left the Hammers. He is undoubtedly a good player who has lost his way. And we have a manager who is proven at getting "more" out of hungry players. Defoe has something to prove. Why not do it with us?

    Defoe

Best reason EVER not to watch a team.... As for Defoe - At £8m/£9m I'd take him, anything less and we'll have gotten a bargain. I could be wrong, but didn't he score for Spurs on Cisse's Leage debut for us (if you know what I mean), and he scored a similar goal in Spurs last league game against WHU. Thing is, he's quick and he CAN put the ball away when he's consistently on his game. Is he quicker than all our current strikers? (Bar Cisse, yes). Is he a more clinical finisher? (Bar Fowler, yes). Is he willing to learn? (undoubtedly, like Crouch). Does he have the intelligence to be able to learn? (time will tell, but if you look at all the players that Rafa and his coaches have improved, you could say he has a fair chance). The final question is - Would he improve our squad, and again, I think the answer to this is Yes - but only at £9m tops.
  19. True enough Stevie, and those individual awards shouldn't be unappreciated, but his erstwhile teammates and especially his replacement went on to much greater glory together... Hell, Kevin and Josemi have the same number of European Cup Winners medals. Neal, Kenny, Hansen achieved much more by staying. Hopefully for all of US, the players who stayed after Mike left will have much more success too.

  21. Excellent piece Knox and very well written. Do I agree with what you say?. Well..... Kind of, yes. I don't want to wish any of former heroes any ill... but then, I'd be lying if I said I wanted them to be in any way successful with their new teams.... If I said I wanted Newcastle United to win the League or FA or European Cup (as if). Going WAYYY back I wanted Hamburg to fail (they did - relative to us ) and Sampdoria to fail (they just did .. ). Think of all those players who left us to "better" themselves ... Keegan, Souness, Owen and Rush. Rush saw sense and Kenny was big enough to take him back. Souness went for money, pure and simple, Owen and Keegan (arguably) both failed to "improve" themselves, and THIS is what Liverpool fans don't forget, and I agree with that - I don't think we should. "You thought the grass was greener - we got better, you got worse - tough". I can see the humour in that, I think anyone can. I don't think Robbie re-signing for Liverpool will have particularly made Owen sick. What would have done though was the sheer worship Robbie got when he scored once, then twice then four more times on the way up the table. We LOVE Robbie in a way we never loved Mike. Newcastle moved up the table TOO, but without their resting World Cup "ace". I adored Mike when he was with us, for a while he was our one trick pony. He's gone but I don't miss him. I desperately wanted Robbie back for what he FEELS about our club. I DON'T want Mike back for exactly the same reason.
  22. New Zidane? Pish. New Cheyrou would get me on the edge of my seat.
