Excellent piece Knox and very well written. Do I agree with what you say?. Well..... Kind of, yes. I don't want to wish any of former heroes any ill... but then, I'd be lying if I said I wanted them to be in any way successful with their new teams.... If I said I wanted Newcastle United to win the League or FA or European Cup (as if). Going WAYYY back I wanted Hamburg to fail (they did - relative to us ) and Sampdoria to fail (they just did .. ). Think of all those players who left us to "better" themselves ... Keegan, Souness, Owen and Rush. Rush saw sense and Kenny was big enough to take him back. Souness went for money, pure and simple, Owen and Keegan (arguably) both failed to "improve" themselves, and THIS is what Liverpool fans don't forget, and I agree with that - I don't think we should. "You thought the grass was greener - we got better, you got worse - tough". I can see the humour in that, I think anyone can. I don't think Robbie re-signing for Liverpool will have particularly made Owen sick. What would have done though was the sheer worship Robbie got when he scored once, then twice then four more times on the way up the table. We LOVE Robbie in a way we never loved Mike. Newcastle moved up the table TOO, but without their resting World Cup "ace". I adored Mike when he was with us, for a while he was our one trick pony. He's gone but I don't miss him. I desperately wanted Robbie back for what he FEELS about our club. I DON'T want Mike back for exactly the same reason.
