Yep. You articulated what I couldn't quite do... There are clear similarities on the surface, but huge differences underneath. I don't really know anything about Hughes, but Edwards seems smart enough to be able to see what we're all seeing.

In terms of stats, (points per game) there are some similarities with the 20/21 season. In 20/21 after 25 games we had 40 points (so just 1 more than we currently have). Both seasons came after we'd won the league, and both had mitigating situations - 20/21 had Covid/ reduced stadiums for part of the season, much worse injury crisis (CBs particularly) , this season we had Jota's death and then broader injuries across the team, with RB the most cursed area. The main difference was that 20/21, it seemed the players still wanted to play for Klopp, whereas it just doesn't look like the players want to play for Slot. Maybe they just don't really care about football at all, because of Jota's death, but from the outside, it does look like they don't love Slot. Also, did Klopp ever have such a clear hatred/dismissal of players like Slott does (Elliott (when here), Ramsay, Endo Chiesa)? I don't want any of them starting regularly, but when we're out of form, and have injured players etc, it's such a weird self sabotaging thing, and really crappy for the players too.

Not why we lost, but the s*** refereeing just rubs salt into it all. Not booking their players for kicking the ball away during injury time, allowing their keeper to hang onto the ball for 12 seconds, Guehi could easily have been sent off - the idea of there being a covering defender is kinda ridiculous when Mo was so close to the goal. And of course the 'current climate' type decision of giving the pen against us, when we will almost certainly see the same s*** happen to us and not be given a pen.

100%. Collective stupidity is a good summary. We dominated City in that second half. And I think they'd gone 3 league games without scoring in the second half. And they played in midweek vs us having the entire week to prepare. And yet, we still managed to lose. Absolute s*** show. The lack of mentality and game management in our players is amazingly s***. Like they're all just going through the motions.

He did. But let's see how often they enforce this "if you get clattered after taking a shot, it's a penalty" thing. Because yet again it's one they very selectively give.

Think everyone has been placed in a weird position now. Salah wasn't the reason we lost all those games earlier in the season, but he's obviously not been anywhere close to his level of last year. And then there was the big spat, and now it's over with, but any time Slot doesn't play him, there's going to be loads of focus on that (and that's aside from the fact that apart from Chiesa, who Slot hates, there isn't really anyone else who can play there at the moment). He was Ok yesterday, but closer to poor than good. And the fact that he and Gakpo have both been so ineffective is massively impacting our game.

The not booking (and then sending off) Burn was even more remarkable. I don't get it. He knew what he was doing (Burn, not the ref). We won, and it didn't cause injury, but could have since you don't expect to be tackled when the ball is already well off the pitch like that. Comically bad to let that go, but the whole game, he was letting them do s*** like that. And yet they only fouled us 7 times apparently.

When we score, it's like we do it in spite of how we're meant to be playing rather than because of it. Thank f*** Ekitike looks an absolute steal. That first 30 minutes was just begging Newcastle to score. All of us could see it coming. Also Hooper is desperate for them to injure one of our players.
