Owen - Was world class, but hasn't been world class for a long while now. We had him at his best and it was good while it lasted. Time to move on now.

You also have to consider who was available then and who is available now. There seems to be more options now. Not only that, but Owen has said publicly in the past that he wanted to come to back to Liverpool. Rafa likes people that want to play for Liverpool, so he tested how much Owen meant it. Did anyone read the article/interview in the Times about Owen a little while back, where he confessed that he doesn't watch films or read books because he can't stand fiction? Also said he'd never go on holiday with just his wife - he couldn't stand it and would always need loads of friends and family with him on any holiday. It's irrelevant to this thread and his footballing ability, but it really turned me off him as a character.

Pretty close My wife has always loved him in a Hels Smicer kinda way. I've always liked him as a footballer. We were three nil down so I was willing to accept anything if it would somehow mean we were going to score a goal, maybe even 3 goals. Neither of us have ever been able to come up with a reason ever since for why the impending fella should not be called Vladimir.

Had a bet with my wife during THE final. If Vlad scored then we'd name our first boy after him, if and when we have one. I thought he was a great footballer. As someone mentioned, his injuries prevented him from being a true Liverpool great. Loved his goal, loved the moment. Will always remember it. It was just what he deserved.

Man we were good. Couple of things I notice/remembered watching that. Our passing was quick, very quick. Players were very alert and prepared to attack from anywhere. Steve McMahon was underated. Kop swaying after the Burrows shot (those were the days) Barnes was a genius.

What's this about Dowie wanting to go north? He spent most of his time in Herts and Beds FFS? (not hearts and beds) Where north? Outside the M25?

I'm sorry but i'd rather Xabi had an excellent world cup for Spain, so hope he gets fit. The world cup is the biggest thing in football. It happens once every 4 years (full of insight eh..) and is an amazing spectacle with the best players in the world. Xabi himself will be desperate to play a huge role. I really don't get all this anti international football stuff. Football comes first. International football is the peak of any player's playing potential. Sure, I don't want any LFC players to get injured, but that's just the way it is. The game of football itself is bigger than LFC and always will be. Just my view like.

Defoe is a great little player. Very quick around the box, can make his own goals and has a terrific shot. I'll be very pleased if he's with us next season. One more and a winger now please.
