You could argue that he is always having to dive into tackles because of his poor positioning and lack of pace , a bit like Djimi was quite good a last ditch sliding tackles because he often caused the situation in the first place. I like the lad and I like his commitment but his positioning is very poor.

Irrespective of what personnel we bring in , we need to pass the football quicker which is often the best way to open teams up rather than a player beating his man in a one-on-one. We also need to learn to retain the ball a lot better either when chasing a game or when we are trying to killa game off.

I've slagged him earlier in this thread so to be fair to him , against Bolton he coped very well with Davies' elbows all game and looked part of a very solid back four , his distribution was also better

The main problem with Riise is that he's thick as pigsh*t and has no footballing brain. The amount of time that Benitez has to tell him where to stand is ridiculous. You can coach a footballer all you want but you cannot put a brain in him (unles your name is Dr Hfuhruhurr)

He's as good as Gary Gillespie , who to me is one of the most underated players we've had.

That's one of my biggest worries. I struggled to pay this year's , if it goes up any more I'd really have to think hard about renewing even though I've had it for 20 years. The problem is the club don't really care whilst there a queue of thousands waiting to take my place. I suppose it's a bit like being an immigrant worker in Dubai

Agreed. We need more craft/ideas in the squad as much as we need pace. We could get away with players being slow if we passed the ball a bit quicker.

The fact that he scored against Chelsea in the European Cup Semi Final and the FA Cup Semi Final flies in the face of the can't play in big games against hard teams theory. Luis is very technically gifted player who gives us a dimension that we don't other wise have. His only thought is to beat his man and create or score. Unfortunately the down side is that when things don't come off he often loses the ball. Somebody else summed him up quite succinctly thus - "Luis is boss but he gives the ball away. If he didn't he'd be Ronaldinho and you can't buy him for £6m"

I think it's by Steve Hale (the fella who did the famous Shankly picture outside the Town Hall) you could try googling it. I know he did a alimited edition re-print of some of the originals a few years back there maybe a few of them floating around

If a fan is concerned about the performance of a player I'd rather they do it here than at the match where it can affect the player directly. Sometimes these forums are just an extension of the alehouse where you can get frustrations off you're chest and advocate how you'd do things . I don't think forums should be viewed seriously by players as a damning ctritique as they are usually just an (over) reaction to current events.
