I know what you mean, Herbie. Something feels different so far this year. It's practically tangible. It's like we're refusing to sell ourselves short and it's a belief and a purpose that champions have. There's a long, long way to go, but we've been building up to this for the last couple of years and it might be our time. It's all in our own hands.

It's disappointing that Pako is going and the timing isn't great, but we'll get over it. The thought of GH coming back is truly terrifying, though.

I enjoyed that as much as the burst of pace through the middle. He made it look like he walked past the defender. A real WTF? moment (cf. Ben Haim last week)

I had my concerns about him, I must admit. I'd seen him go missing in games for both AM and Spain and I wasn't sure he had the heart for it. I hope he continues to ram those concerns down my throat, cos his workrate and attitude has been spot on. I love the way he walks by players and I think his biggest asset is the fact that he looks like he can make his own chances. He's looking like a f*cking nightmare to play against at the moment.

Nurse! I think Rafa knows we could do with more cover at the back. Forget about Davies, though. There's no way we'll pay that much money for a back up and I doubt the player himself would move to be third choice CB. If we sign someone, I reckon it'll be an under the radar job. Unless Rafa thinks that the Bacharach & David lad is ready.

I doubt you'll find one person on here that doesn't think he needs to improve many aspects of his game. He was very direct today, is clearly growing in confidence with every game, and was a handful for Sunderland both down the right and when he cut inside. To say he didn't contribute is just horsesh*te.

With potentially 60 games over the season, yes, there's still a place for him in the squad. Whether he wants to stick around or not is a different issue.

Pennant was one of our best players today. Babel was quiet except for one twenty minute spell in the FIRST half, but still showed some promise. I do agree that Voronin and Torres looks like a partnership that could work well (and also that The Crow and Gerrard seem to like playing with each other - if pre-season is anything to go by), and it was heartening to see the zeal with which they celebrated the second goal together. The other two strikers still have a major part to play, however.

Facundo Sava. I took an immediate dislike to him for some reason. I remember thinking before we played them, "this f*cker is gonna score against us", and sure enough, he did. Twice if I recall correctly. I hated him even more after that.
