Yes. We’ve been playing like this for the best part of a year, especially in the second half when we’re ahead. I’m sure Slot isn’t telling the players to be s***, and I’m sure this isn’t how he imagines it working. But it’s pretty clear he wants control through possession and that the players are under instructions not to take risks.
The result is slow, predictable football with very little movement and almost no forward runs. Add the lack of pressing, and we’re incredibly easy to play against. That is down to his instructions. It’s just not working the way he wants it to and teams have clearly worked us out, to the point where even Burnley and Wolves can cause us problems.
Today we actually played decent, positive football in the first half. Then we went ahead and Slot reverted to type, hoping we could control the game and see it out. But we can’t, because we’re terrible at it. And it’s worrying that he keeps going back to the same approach.
