I was including Wigan in my thoughts as a bigger club. I don't see why an important cup competiton should be downplayed. If the League Cup goes the FA cup will be next on the agenda and smaller teams will be more and more marginalised. The reason the League Cup is being mistreated is because of money. Teams want the money from staying in the league or qualifying for the champions' league. It's rubbish. A trophy should be more important than where you finish so you get a few more pounds

The league cup isn't just about what the top few teams think about it. It's another chance for smaller clubs to play big clubs and have their shot at glory and revenue. It shouldn't be derided because a few big clubs deem themselves to be above a trophy. Besides this question is so cyclical. The whole of the country was watchin the game when it was us v the mancs/chelsea and when chelsea played the mancs. The competition suddenly becomes important again then in the national psyche aqnd there isn't a question of scrapping it. I hate Chelsea but I do have to give them a bit of kudos for takingthe competition seriously
