Decent Liverpool related books

Fly Fishing by J.R Hartley is a cracking read

I enjoyed reading Faith of Our Fathers. Excellently written. A more recently published (and less well known) book is Match of My Life by Leo Moynihan where eleven players (McAllister, Barnes, Carragher etc) talk about the memories from their favourite match. Just finished reading A Season on the Brink which was very insightful to what went on behind the scenes last season but also whet my apetite for Paco Lloret's official biography of Benitez which I recieved yesterday.

 

There are always the usual suspects like Pete Evo's and Paul Tomkins' books. I've always enjoyed reading John Williams' stuff but haven't as yet bought the Miracle on Istanbul so can tell you nowt about it.

 

As for non-Liverpool related books, David Conn's The Beautiful Game is very good. Currently reading Harry Pearson's The Far Corner about football in the North East. Written some ten years ago, it is still a very funny book. Next in line is Jonathan Wilson's Behind the Curtain which deals about football in Eastern Europe.

I can definitely recommend "The Red Revolution - Liverpool Under Houllier" published in 2002.

 

Part of the reason I can definitely recommend it is because I wrote it! (I think it would be remiss of me not to point that out)

 

But I do also think its a good read, and I've had good reaction from people on it, not least Mon Houllier himself

i got robbies book out of 'the works' bookshop on saturday £4.99

 

 

saving for the plane trip to turkey though , so have'nt started to read it yet , otherwise i would'nt put it down

 

 

 

reading michael owens off the record at the moment , very good , also read gerard houllier by stephen f kelly in a day , and tackling my demons by collymore is a brilliant read

Was just about to mention 'El Macca.' By far my favourite book by an ex-red. Superbly written compared to a lot of football related books and has an impressive cast of galacticos and famous footballing folk who seem happy to add to the content.

 

Also thought 'A Season on the Brink' was decent for a similar reason.

 

Thought Robbie's book was s***, unfortunately.

 

Quite enjoyed Collymore's as it's an interesting insight into his psyche.

 

Got Tomkins' book on the shelf still to read.

Enjoyed that when I read it a few years back - a touch out of date now, and I suspect some of the stuff in it about Houllier has been thoroughly debunked.

Fowlers book isn't good at all - repeats everything in most chapters

 

Here's 2 that haven't been mentioned: Aldo's book and Alan Hansen's books are quite good read's imo.

In case you didn't get it, Fowler's book is log. He/Maddock just goes on about how his acting the c*nt was actually nothing to worry about.

Fantastic book, read it in a day and a half on holiday, defo worth a read. Its passing between all me mates at the moment and the queue for its getting bigger. It looks like its been thumbed more times than Jordans cl*t.

I'd avoid Lloret's book, it really is a dull affair.

 

Not as much as I'd avoid Stephen F Kelly's Shankly biog, though - that's incredibly bad.

 

"A Season With Verona" by Tim Parks is excellent, it's much like "The Miracle Of Castel Di Sangro", but possibly better.

 

"Football Against The Enemy" by Simon Kuper is good too.

 

"Broken Dreams" by Tom Bower (I may have his name wrong) is good - insight into football corruption in England. (There's 3 chapterson Terry Venables....)

Yep, have to agree...........the Kevin Sampson books are excellent..........Powder was also good.

If you like Away Days I can also suggest "Steaming In"........the original and best book of that type IMO.

I didn't like "Powder" at all, and I've been reluctant to read any more Sampson since, but everyone tells me Awaydays is brilliant.

Got it for my brother for Christmas. It's very much a coffee table book with some great pics in it but not much of a read - most of the stories are just old quotes that I've read elsewhere I thought.
