Paul B Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 That pitch did look terrible today on tv, for anyone who was there, did it look just as bad live? It seemed like many players sruggled with it today. Agreed, twas BAD.
Red_Polo Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 (edited) That pitch was atrocious, even TNS had a better pitch. Edited February 11, 2006 by Red_Polo
Nerik Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 It was a potato field. We could never get more than 3-4 passes together and thus take the game in our hands.
Paul B Posted February 11, 2006 Author Posted February 11, 2006 That pitch was atrocious, even TNS had a better pitch. Yeah, but that was in August (or was it July?)
Andythered Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 TNS played at Wrexham for their home leg. The pitch there is pretty good.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 commentator put it down to the undersoil heating - makes the pitch damp & soft
Red_Polo Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Well even Wrexham have a better pitch then lol For a Premiership side to have such a terrible pitch is embarrassing. Chelsea's pitch was crap as well but today's was something else.
Superjay Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Theres an ongoing arguement in work between me and a RL fan. Theres a big arguement in hull here as to why the pitch is crap, is it down to the footballers or the RL's or a combo of both. I guess today proved me correct.
Earl Hafler Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Can't believe the Premiership allow clubs to host rugby matches
Scally Bob Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 The pitch was only recently relaid-if you looked behind the goals you could see the join. Apparently it cost them £100,000: I think they were done. It was awful today, we couldn't get the ball knocked about. And it's a big pitch-we should have passed them out of it. I was told that the rugby doesn't harm the pitch as much as the football but surely the problem is that the pitch is in use 12 months a year. They can't re-lay it properly or seed it in the summer. Also, although there were football piches around there before the stadium was built there were also loads of scrapyards and they reckon the ground under the pitch isn't very good.
ricflairandy Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 remdined me of aintree, the pitche is in the air as temamates run on it.
stressederic Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Thank god we've played at their place now, and not in a few weeks when the Rugby starts up again.
Koogan Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 I think Sami's oggie scare was due to a divot or summat.
Scally Bob Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 at chelsea a small russian miner popped his head out of the turf and headed the ball back towards their player at one point. Was that when Abramovich ran onto the pitch offering him a hill of beans for his rights to all the minerals, oil and trees in Siberia?
Paul B Posted February 12, 2006 Author Posted February 12, 2006 Was that when Abramovich ran onto the pitch offering him a hill of beans for his rights to all the minerals, oil and trees in Siberia? Hey, Scally, do they always play Northern Soul at Wigan's ground? Is "The Snake" a regular half-time song or what? I'm asking since I know you live there and assume you may have ventured in there a time or two.
Scally Bob Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Hey, Scally, do they always play Northern Soul at Wigan's ground? Is "The Snake" a regular half-time song or what? I'm asking since I know you live there and assume you may have ventured in there a time or two. They do, yes. Normally they play "Out on the Floor" by Dobie Gray at half time or "Sliced Tomatoes" by the Just Brothers (that's the original tune that was sampled for "Funk Soul Brother"). Yesterday it was Al Wilsdon's "The Snake" and "Two Can Have a Party" by Gaye & Weston during the hit the bar competition. Dobie Gray was on at full time. Personally I can't stand the Al Wilson number. To be a real Soulie you have to be this anal about it. Anyway it's better than "I Feel Good" at the Reebok.
Mike Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 dobie gray...takes me back that.my brother and cousing were into northern soul.didn't dobie do the original 'in crowd'?
Guest Kev Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Anfield is not wearing up that well either, but it's a carpet compared to some. All groundsmen should be forced to spend a week at Highbury, their pitch is always perfect.

fyds Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 That pitch did look terrible today on tv, for anyone who was there, did it look just as bad live? It seemed like many players sruggled with it today.I saw the game on Football first when I got back and I think it looked a lot worse in real life - the camera made it look a lot more green and even than it was. There also seem to be a lot of odd shadows across the pitch and corner areas that don't come over on the nore flatly lit TV pictures. Horrible surface.
