Extraordinarily happy with Arsenal's past week

Leeds model? Yes, their stadium costs are massive, but you cannot compare them to Leeds, which suffered from gross mismanagement. Not the same thing.

they are currently in debt to the tune of twice the amount leeds were when they went titties up.

according to the times recently, they need to beat real madrid in the european tie to make an initial interest payment. apparently they have based their future revenue on qualifying for the champs' league for each of the next seven seasons - similar to leeds there.

the management may be more competent than ridsdale & co., but if results don't go their way it could be the case that no amount of acumen will rescue them from disaster.

the new library is not the same as leeds situation. Arsenal are building an asset, and have lots of experience in proprty and gearing of assets. As soon as the stadium is finished they will refinance, and not be any worse off. they may need to tighten their purse strings with regards to players, but I can't see them imploding like leeds.

Personally, I think they have a great model, and its a great achievement to have a stadium like they will.

Its a shame the fans take their flasks, soups and blankets to the games, as a 60000 will make it harder for us to generate an atmosphere for them when we play there.

The Times were shown to be talking out of their a*** though.

What interests me far more than Arsenal's financial situation is the state of their team. No Campbell this weekend, Toure in Africa and the prospect of partnering the inexperienced Senderos with either Flamini or Gilberto.

Add in the fact that they don't have a half-decent, fit left-back and they are in total disarray at the back. Hopefully, by the time we play them any confidence they might have will be at it's lowest.

As one of our major rivals, that is very pleasing.

No right back now either, Lauren is out for the season and Kerrea Gilbert went off after 27 minutes the other night and is set to miss their next game. Djourou will play at CB will he not? He's been one of their better players in recent weeks.

if Henry hasn't signed by Walcotts 17th birthdfay, perhaps we should give him a little chat. without Henry, cole probably jumping ship, and campbell all but finished, they won't even have an english player in their first 16 let alone first 11!!!

On the other hand, we won the CL last season from a similarly poor position, and real madrid are hardly the world beaters they were.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, our bad run bumped into their bad run and, well, theirs continued...

Can't be too blase about our recent form but I can still continue to enjoy watching Arsenal become a much smaller club. What was it Wenger said about Millwall again? Their chances of European footy are reeceding with every game they play now.
