One thing I did notice he got pulled/drawn out of position on several occasions in the first half. This in it self contributed to Carra`s poor first half performance too, all to often he was covering his own and Finnans position. Second half finnan did make amends. End of the day we won. A great game for the neutral supporters and the FA Cup. People will be even more wary of us if they are a goal or two up during a game. We made mistakes, as long as we learn from them, its acceptable.
Kite Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 (edited) We can rely onStevie FinnanHe can do no wrongbut he has no song! (to some simplistic tune or other ) Edited January 11, 2006 by Lenin
Knox_Harrington Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Thought Finnan was the best of the back four by some way on Saturday. That he was caught upfield was more to do with sloppy passing in midfield (by Sissoko especially) meaning we discarded possession when he had bombed on.

He didn't have a total nightmare and moreover he looked interested and involved, which couldn't be said for some of his team mates. Agree. His alertness and quick thinking on more than one occasion bailed us out.

The only defender to have any clue in the first half, constantly let down by not getting the ball when committed to attack, which meant they could throw the ball in behind him and pull our whole defence laterally. Sometimes it wouldn't matter but the fact that the other three (yes, including Carra) were scheidt on the night, didn't help.

Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 In the 1st half he was getting skinned as often as Warnock usually does. The pushing up in the 2nd half deffo worked though

And until now, the main reason he was noticed when he's missing is because his replacement was so painfully inferior in every department. Kromkamp certainly has his work cut out but I stand by my much-maligned statement that he will be the barometer by which we will discover exactly how important Steve Finnan is to us.
