Motson obviously has a soft spot for Luton. If I remember rightly he lives fairly local to them. Plus the way he was talking about their players he has obviously seen a few of their games this season.

Bottom line - the cameras were there because they sensed an upset. Same reason Hull - Villa was on. You can't then have a go at them for pushing that line. As frustrating as it was to hear, you have to accept it.

Agreed, but it still irked me that he was saying we hadn't paid them enough respect when the team we fielded showed we had, and it was more that a few of our players were looking tired after the recent run of games. Luton were up for it as they should be. To be fair to them though it's a while since any team has out-played us like they did in the first half.

He was winding me up too - his fawning over Rooney is bad enough - but tonight he was trying to make out that this was a great upset and Liverpool had underestimated Luton and hadn't given them the proper respect, when everyone knew this was going to be a tough game. I mean why were the TV cameras there? because they knew there was a good chance of an upset.

Yeah that's the case Motty  Apart from Carson in goal it was a full strength side!

We were arrogant after the first goal - didn't even bother to celebrate looked we expected a walkover.

yep true. Said the same thing last night in the match thread. That our first half performance was set in stone the second Gerrard couldn't be bothered to even celebrate a goal.

And from the O'fish:

BENITEZ: WE WERE TOO COMPLACENT

Rafael Benitez has declared himself unhappy with Liverpool's performance in the thrilling 5-3 FA Cup success at Luton and accused his players of complacency.

Despite experiencing his first win in the competition and securing a place in round four, Benitez believes the Reds made life difficult for themselves at Kenilworth Road.

Liverpool took an early lead through skipper Steven Gerrard but then allowed the Hatters to race into a 3-1 lead that threatened to dump the European Champions out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle for the second year running.

A stunning late comeback eventually spared their blushes but the boss was in a far from celebratory mood afterwards.

"The problem was we scored too early and we thought the game was going to be easy," Benitez said.

"When we woke up the score was 3-1 to them. We got back into it and kept going forward, but you cannot afford to wait until the second half to play.

"I was not happy with the performance. We gifted them so many chances."

His random shreekings really hurt my brain too. And I lost count of the amount of innane babble he came out with.

Also, I'm pretty sure he called one of the Luton players 'Cisse' about 5 minutes after Cisse had gone off.
