Lets get down to basics. The bloke couldn't get into our team. He's not that good. He's a poor career goals record due to being an average finisher, as average as McManaman and Garcia, just without the occassional spectacular.

Added to that, he a complete selfish c***, and we should bother no more with this. The bloke pops up in his well advised adhoc interviews saying he's a Liverpool fan, and cue speculation.

I would sooner we go for Anelka if we want a striker - if we want a RM then we should get a RM not a "converted" striker

He's not that good anyway 1/3-1/4 is not a great strike rate

Like everyone is saying, talented footballer, but theirs trouble lurking when he's around, but, and it's a big but, if he came here, we have a club that is well run, and we don't seem to breed n0bheads, perhaps we could be the club that settles him down, and fully appreciate all of his undoubted skill. Newcastle United is like a young offenders outfit.

The Celtic Pele is a proven talent at international, CL and Premiership standard.

He terrorised Italy for Wales, dominated the Geordies last European campaign and has caused problems for every side he has faced in the domestic league.

He is faster than Morientes, more creative than Baros, taller than Sinnerman, slimmer than Mellor and far more courageous than Garcia.

His ball control and range of passes are excellent and he can play the game at a terrific pace. He is a fitness fanatic and one of the most conscientious trainers in the Geordie squad. He is a traditional inside forward with an excellent reputation for creating chances for the main striker. Shearer described Bellamy as the best partner he has played with.

At £6M and a paltry £40K per week he’s cheaper than Anelka and a far better value for money than the over-priced Beattie, Saha and that arm-waving pouter Cisse.

If we replace his girly hairstyle with a manly skinhead and ban him from post-match interviews he’ll do for me.

That is a shocking overstatement of some paltry achievements. It's entirely possible to eulogise the great Emile Heskey in similar terms, and equally as misguided. If you want to throw it open to value for money, you're on shaky ground. What do you get for the cash, what have Newcastle got for their money, for the same wages as Owen takes from Madrid? Goals, consistentcy, productivity?. Definately no pouting or arm-waving!

The bloke is quick, and is a decent footballer, but in the great scheme of things, he is not up there in the ranks of premiership forwards. He's just not, he's proved no such thing, international, CL or anywhere. The hype surrounding him is not just scandal, it's part of this broadsweep of annointing players above their level, simply because they make headlines. It's a problem in England, which inflates wages and transfer fees for some frankly average players. When it comes down to bare facts, this bloke is as prolific as Heskey and Smith, but two of them are 'considered better players'.
