Just looking at the way we play it looks like we have 1 full back pushing on whilst the other tucks in to almost create a 3 at the back and seems to skew the formation. Is this any different to other teams?

Also, was watching some clips on you tube and saw a pretty cool formation that may work. It was a 3313

Kelly, skrtel, agger

Wisdom, Lucas, Johnson

-----------Allen---------

Gerrard suareZ sterling

Obviously 2 Johnson's would be ideal but putting the full backs higher up to start and giving an extra cb would provide some solidity whilst also providing extra bodies in attack.

It's a 343 and it's virtually what we're doing any way, on the ball.

That is never going to happen. The formation maybe but not the lineup. Wisdom isn't good enough going forwards to shoulder the wingback role.

Besides, Kelly is out. It'll be a good while before we have to think about where he fits in.

every formation is with or without the ball

that's why 'every formation is 4-4-2'

that 3-3-1-3 becomes 3-3-3-1 when defending, a la Ajax in the 90s

Probably true for many teams these days. And obviously for us.

One of our big problems this season has been the transition from our having-the-ball formation to a defending formation.

Yep, because there's such a difference between the two and we're attacking and committing numbers forward. If that means that we will occasionally get picked off on the break by some of the top teams under this system, but are much better at smashing the smaller teams in the league on a regular basis then I'd happily take that.

Agree with that.

That said - I'm intrigued by our approach to Spurs and Chelsea away and to a certain extent The Ev this weekend. We should be deliberately patient. A nil nil does us in all three imo. Keep the ball, get them running and wait for an opportunity to open itself up. I'd certainly take nil nil on 75 minutes against Everton. They'll be up the wall, on the verge of someone getting sent, tiring. Just keep the ball and kill the game and watch their heads go.

yeah, and keep trying to get sterling one on one with hibbert.

chelsea will be tough, their three attacking midfielder set-up is very, very hard to manage. needs one of them disciplined gerrard games that.

The counter point is that they're not massively defensively disciplined I suppose. Requires you to get on the ball a fair bit like.

Johnson could well be key for that one which ever flank he starts on. We have to get one of their attacking midfield three going backwards.

That's natural even if playing a 4-4-2. Barcelona are the only team brave enough to leave two at the back. Everyone else wil always be three when attacking, except Hodgson's teams, which will have 4 back.

Its going to be a fascinating game. Presumably, they are without Pienaar which will be a blow for them. Is Fellaini likely to be available for them?

BIWs (Blues In Work) optimistic that Fellaini will be back by hook or by crook. Less so over Gibson and they think they need him. All BIWs are devoed over lack of Pienaar. All onside with discussions of context rather than incident in refereeing all of a sudden. Almost been a Damascine conversion.

ivanovic is really good, so is cole obviously. the way hazard, oscar and mata are playing at the moment is superb. we'll have to manage that. anyway, the ev and others before that like.

Shame about Fellaini. His pairing with Jelavic will cause any defence difficulties.

I still think they are being optimistic. And that if he does play he won't be the full Fellaini. Rushing him back could be counter-productive but he is a threat.

Rodgers said to Shelvey that he saw him playing as his No 10 it means we'll tend to set out a bit more 4231, with Sahin and Shelvey competing for that position.

I think we are in a great position in regard to our midfield options

Lucas--Henderson--Allen--Sahin--Gerrard--Shelvey--Suso

Which ever combination BR picks looks brave and good , whether we are playing with one or two sitting players

I honestly think we can forget Lucas for the season. He may get back after Christmas but will be nowhere near top form for months after. I think he was struggling a bit after he got back from the last injury and up until he got reinjured he was still looking a bit rusty.

he is due to be back in November according to the physio room

We terribly need a finisher/poacher up front and push suarez the no 10 role or out wide. A Lewandoski type of player would siut us perfectly

But Wisdom has been getting forward.

It's still 4-3-3.

That is exactly what we need and we would really benefit from pushing Gerrard up wide ride and have the following options up top:

Top new poacher, Suarez, Gerrard, Sterling, Suso, Assaidi, Yesil

To compliment:

Lucas, Allen, Sahin, Shelvey, Henderson, Gerrard, Suso

And that to be would look a bit f***ing good, all with one signing.

PS: Really liking our defensive options at the moment too, looking good there aswel but will all fall down if we can score goals.
