I read the book a while ago - its OK - very French, even after the translation! Not too controversial I didn't think, concentrates on individuals & relationships rather than trying to set out to blame anyone. Its got a few old stereotypes in there but you'd have to expect that to creep into something written by any foreigner. I don't think they were particularly overdone bearing inmind what was going on at the time though it doesn't really add much context.

Of course what the Film director will do with it needn't necessarily reflect the book, I suspect it'll knock a few noses out of joint to get a bit of publicity

Think I'll wait for the film being made about Istanbul and Liverpool beating AC Milan, thank you;

I have not read the book but then, having witnessed the events first hand ( I was in the X section), I don't need a book or film to tell me what it was really like as a fan.

Half way through the book.

Mentions the fact that many of the "english" contingent where not reds and where walking through the town centre chanting 'england!, england!,' much to the confusion of the kopites.

looking forward to this film.

I don't think that talk does us any favours to be honest

But anyway

In what sense?

In that it makes us look as though we are trying to deflect blame or even invent excuses?

I was only about 8 at the time but I do remember those stories coming out almost immediately at the time.

No idea whether there was much/any truth in them but my take on it has really just been that whilst there were loads of factors involved, and whilst the same could/would have happened if it had been any other set of fans than ours involved, at the end of the day it is a bit distasteful for us to protest too much.

The tragedy was that 39 people died - not that we got banned from Europe, whether people think we were treated harshly or not. It is why the Blues**** turn my stomach, trying to turn it into their tragedy.

No, whatever the truth about non-Reds being there in the mix - one of the top Everton 'crew' has written about being there, and claimed there were other 'faces' he recognised - those claims (such as made by John Smith the next day) have always looked like attempts to deflect the blame. FWIW, I suspect that those in the ground were almost 100% Reds, even if there were others in the town and round about looking for it go off.

It's foolish to pretend that we would need external catalysts to get d****eads laying into the opposition like they did. We definitely had enough d****eads of our own for that, and we must face up to that fact, and their primary causal role in the tragedy - (alongside legitimate caveats about the stadium, ticketing etc)

Eufa where to blame. simple as that. 2 sets of fans fighting before a match in the 80's was always going to happen. Eufa where warne about the state of the stadium and did nothing.

As for everton who's own Andy scumbag nicholls was over there touting tickets for the X section they can just f*** off.

The italian press at the time gave a very balanced view of what happend and I think this film will do the same.

If it's used as a blanket excuse, I agree, but I have rarely heard it said in those terms, usually mentioned as a factor that is often if not always overlooked.

was never a penalty either

It was obviously overshadowed by tragedy & corruption.

But I still feel bitter about Boniek & Platini.

Don't see it as a factor. We don't need Chelsea's lads to look after ourselves, but there may be something i'm missing

Platini's celebrations are a disgrace really
