I wouldn't call it stupid, more unimaginative. If Gerrard really does want the medal above all else, I'd suggest he would have gone already, but he might have to go now if. What's the choice now, try and get to Man City for their run this season and next before it dissolves?

 

Funny bit about that is the way he bigs up Newcastle under him, the most epic failures in the PL era, and famously left Shearer without winning a thing with them.

What's his point anyway? Maybe Gerrard is resigned to the fact that he'll never win the league and just wants to see his career out at his hometown club. Seems like a lazy piece thrown up on the back of the 'Liverpool in crisis' agenda.

If I was being cynical, he quite resents the fact he was superseded by Kenny and wasn't missed whilst he was off growing his brand and bank account, and wants others to validate his choice of leaving and having to make do with being a Newcastle icon who delivered ultimately an illusion of stature to them, he is quite small after all.

While i'd be hughly disappointed for him if he can't add the League medal to his collection, He can hardly grumble about what he has achieved with us. There can't be many players around Europe still playing to have been involved in three European club final's with a great chance of more.
