  1. 1. Should people be more respecful to this old gent?

    • The Manc in work is correct - people should have a lot of respect for this old gent
      3
    • The Manc maybe right - people are probably a bit over the top when it comes to this fella just trying to manage a football team fairly and with dignity and grace

I had an interesting 'discussion' with a Manc IN WORK ™, whose words I will share.

The question is; HAS He got a valid point?

Or not?!

---------------------------------

MANC IN WORK:

"There you go again, abuse him until your hearts content. If it makes you feel better make fun of the wise old dog. Be it.. on your conscience my friend."

"The best manager to ever grace British football, and he is just a laughing stock to people with the same mindset as yourself. Well all I can say is shame on you. you should be embarrassed. Perhaps when you reach a mature age one day Andy, once poor old Sir Alex has passed away, you will appreciate him as the master tactician and management mastermind that he was in the modern game."

ask the manc in work what a working class scot from govan, a shipyard shop steward no less, is doing accepting a knighthood. what a man of the people.

OK, let's try be dispassionate for a while.

He's the manager of his generation - and while we could argue Paisley was better in getting results, in this generation, Ferguson is peerless. Add in the fact that the timing of his success with ManU has also coincided with the rise of football in public consciousness, it's no surprise he's been knighted. There's no real competition as Wenger and co cannot be knighted

He's built a couple of winning teams although I think Giggs' win last week speaks volumes. Tight games requiring guile and all that is when he brings out Scholes and Giggs. There's still a vast amount of trust in them two to get results and they are the survivors of his first successful side. Therefore I would question whether he's done the "side building" thing to the degree widely held in the press. Like Wenger, he's had the flops who ave been swept under the carpet, but he's less successful in the transfer market - and in "churning" teams than Wenger. Not that churning is the be all and end all, but it's clear that he's not really replaced some of the "stars" of past teams, despite vast budgets that allow shopping for a Mercedes rather than a Renault (even if the Merc is really a Renault....)

His results are amazing. They really are. Hate the fact but they do keep winning things and that's down to him. Many times I have read that the work is done by the assistant. The assistant changes, the results don't.

I guess the question would hypothetically be - and should be - would he have the same respect he has were it not for the money that United have. As in, were he at Bolton or Charlton? He'd still be successful and regarded as a good manager, IMO.

A great one with the respect that he seems to have? I doubt it.

Email sent!

(The response, after, I suspect, Much googling..)

He was actually training to be a 1st class engineer. As his father was one of the most respected engineers of the 20th Century.

The Ferguson family tree is steeped in history around the rise of the Victorian engineering expertise and ambition of the 19th centurty.

Oh Yes Fergies Grandfather was no less than the chief advisor to Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and another one of Fergies relatives was the chief engineer on Europes first steam ship the COMET. Built on the Clydeside Docks.

You see although fergie did not train as a mechanical/Electrical engineer, he has achieved in the sporting world what could to referred to as a Master Engineer of Football. As you know he is the most successful manager of all time.

RESPECT.

And that my friend is why fergie is now a Sir!!!

Though, amusingly when he sent the Email back - he spelt his name wrong "Fergusan"

Arf.

I might be crazy but I reckon this poll might reveal that most posters on the YNWA message board do not approve of Alex Ferguson. I'd even put money on it.

In response to my noting he spelt Ferguson's name wrong;

"Apparantly the house of Ferguson in Scotland was orginally spelt with an A as oppose to an O.

This dates back to Sir Charles Fergussan of Kilkerran, 9th BT, Chief of the Name and Arms of Fergussan, apparantly the Fergussan family name was a direct offspring from Robert the Bruce. There are also links in his family name to King James the 6th of Scotland who became King James the 1st of England, so there you go Fergie has a right to be the King of England!

I would prefer him as the king of England and protector of Great Britain instead of Elizabeth Windsor!!

King Ferguson..... Long Live the King!"

O...K..

I think he started out as a decent enough guy, but he's like a toddler that has never had its bad behaviour curbed. He's just become worse and worse until his sense of entitlement is so horrifyingly skewed that he flies into fits of rage at the slightest sign that he's not going to get his way.

The FA and Preimer League created this particular monster.

(Edit: This post refers to Ferguson, not Andy. Sorry if there was any temporary confusion)

a little fydsing reveals:

People with AS show significant difficulties in social interaction and restricted, stereotyped patterns of behavior and interests.

Atypical use of language is frequently reported. Abnormalities include verbosity, abrupt transitions, literal interpretations and miscomprehension of nuance, use of metaphor meaningful only to the speaker, auditory perception deficits, unusually pedantic, formal or idiosyncratic speech, and oddities in loudness, pitch, intonation, prosody, and rhythm.

Intense preoccupation with a narrow subject is typical.

surely no-one on the forum fits this description?

That sounds like half the forum.

Cf., inter alia, fining an Aberdeen player for having the temerity to drive out of the car park before him and using a celebrity loophole lawyer to avoid taking responsibility for breaking the law.
