Siang Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 and our season went t*ts up from there on! Same scenario now, different team with a stronger mentality. The OG spurred Spurs on, we weren't playing too badly either, 2 shots hit the post summed up the evening for me anyway (plus, i was having my pints in a pub in S'pore with the name of S.O.D.S Pubs; S.O.D.S. stands for the owners name, Shamus O'Donells! Lovely fella BTW..) I just want to see what's our response will be like this Tuesday night against Athletico Madrid and WBA this weekend as it would REALLY shape the season! What do u all think...
Guest Ant Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 ....Gah Don't remind me. It's a big game v WBA no doubt, as I said in the other thread, we really need a good win under our belt, not another comeback, a solid 2 or 3-0 win because we are damn capable. We need an injected boost of confidence.
Guest Snorky Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 What we need is a response like Chelsea's to our victory against them. The two games since we beat them they have beat Hull 3-0 away and 5-0 against Sunderland.
Chili Palmer Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 its that fecking yellow ball, takes our lads a bit to get used to it.

Already i have young LFC fans in Malaysia and Singapore, claiming we will win it this season and this pisses me off as it's only freaking Oct and not May!!! That said, we have far better team (in terms of both personnel and tactics as well as an excellent manager) and i THINK we will get on another run of 9-10 games unbeaten.. then let's see how the tables stack up at Christmas time
Hassony Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I would take any kind of win now, whether its a boring 1-0 or a 4-3 win with 3 goals in injury time the important thing is to win and stay at the top
Chili Palmer Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Already i have young LFC fans in Malaysia and Singapore, claiming we will win it this season and this pisses me off as it's only freaking Oct and not May!!! its november, and I'm glad to see people believing we will win it. be optimistic.
Stevie H Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Already i have young LFC fans in Malaysia and Singapore, claiming we will win it this season and this pisses me off as it's only freaking Oct and not May!!!that's a seasonal thing. they think that because the weather is springlike that it's nearing the end of the season. same problem here in thailand.
Siang Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 its november, and I'm glad to see people believing we will win it. be optimistic. i am optimistic , but sometimes its the way the young 'uns talks ... Maybe it's the freaking generation gap!!!
Siang Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 that's a seasonal thing. they think that because the weather is springlike that it's nearing the end of the season. same problem here in thailand. u based in BKK or its outskirts? i m usually in BKK / Rayong every month for business trips
Stevie H Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 u based in BKK or its outskirts? i m usually in BKK / Rayong every month for business tripsnah man, up the north, chiang mai, and i try to avoid going to bangkok unless absolutely necessary. not enough trees, mountains and strange wandering hilltribe people.

John am Rhein Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 What do u all think... We'll go on a long run of wins from now on
Billy Dane Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Think this is what is needed from us: (apologies if posted elsewhere, couldn't see it - I got it in an e-mail, from RAWK originally) It's May 2009 in the Cat and Fiddle pub on Stanley Road, Bootle. Two fella’s are sitting at a table motionless, staring into their pints,Refusing to acknowledge what is being beamed outto the world on the Big Screen in the corner. "Thought you'd have gone to West Brom lad" "Nah, couldn't be arsed mate, i'm fed up with it……….I never thought i'd see this day when these c****equal our League Title's record." The screen in the pub is showing footage ofManchester United players running round the pitchwith the Premier League trophy, the fans deliriousknowing that they have finally ended Liverpool FC'sreign as the team to have won the most league titles. "Sickener innit? You know our problem don't ye lad,too many draws, look back to the likes of Stoke and Portsmouthat home? The week before Stoke, we beat Man U,the game before Portsmouth, we beat Chelsea away, and then we go and draw against them s**** teams." "Tellin' ye...the team and the crowd are just not up for itin them lesser league games, and we'll never mount a decent title challengeuntil both the team and the supporters go intothese games and give it their all.....I just wish I could turn back the clockto October 2008 when we'd just beaten Chelsea and we're sittin at the top of the Prem.I'd do absolutely everything that I possibly could to drill it into our playershearts that it was our year. And if we, the supporters, believe in themand could transfer that belief from the terraces and into theirminds…then we would've done it. We'd've stopped this f***ing nightmare! We’d beaten the best, we just had to then beat the rest.” “I know mate, I know….can’t turn back the time though can we. Just got to focuson next season now, see who we buy in the summer, and then hope wemount a decent challenge…..aaaah who am I kidding? We’re always out of the title race by January…can’t see that ever changing….” The two fella’s gulp down the last of their pints and shuffleout onto the street, Sky Sports is now showing footage of the Man Ugame, “Beautiful Day” by U2 accompanying the celebratory scenes at the end... …then, the music stops, And you realize that it’s not May, it’s not 2009, it’s October 2008.You’ve got your wish. The time has been turned back and you’vegot that second chance to make a difference. So what are you going to do with it? Cos I don’t wanna be sitting there watching those c****run round whatever pitch they clinch it with their 18th League Title…f*** THAT! We know we, the supporters, can make a difference.I’m not arrogant enough to suggest we’ve won games ourselves(ok, maybe the Chelsea semi 2005 like) but we DEFFO make a difference. So as long as we do our bit off the pitch,We might not be watching them horrible t***s celebrating their18th League Title come May 2009. Singing, flags, banners, getting’ in the ground a bit early etc. Sound. No problemo. What about something different though, What time does our Team’s Coach arrive? What about a proper mob of die-hard Redmen waiting on Anfield Roadfor the Team Bus to turn up. That could give them a bit of an edge, seeing a load of contorted faces, clenched fists and banging on theside of the coach instead of a gang of blerts with Anfield Arnie Autograph books. Some of our younguns could get down to Melwood the training session before a game, let the c**** know that WE mean business and we DEMAND them to mean it too. Things like, if ye see Riera doing a bit of shopping in the Allerton Tesco,Don’t blimp his trolley to see what scran he’s just bought,Grab the c*** by the f***ing throat and scream down his earHow important it is that we beat Fulham this Satdee! Cos ye know what la, I’d hate to be watching that shower of b******s with number 18,knowing in the back of me mind that there was something moreI could’ve done to prevent the horror show of what we’d be witnessing. Oh and just to re-iterate, man u could be winning their 18th League Title in May 2009. MAKE A DIFFERENCE . . . . . . .
Sion Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Yeah, lets apply more pressure to a team that already look scared s***less they're gonna f*** it up! that'll work!
Billy Dane Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Interesting take on it.... This is the bit that registered with me: "And if we, the supporters, believe in themand could transfer that belief from the terraces and into theirminds…" If we believe and provide the level of support we are capable of in every game, then maybe, just maybe... Course, we can always just sit and hope and applaud politely....

Course, we can always just sit and hope and applaud politely.... those days are gone, except for the big games where I sit, people routinely boo if we go in to half time leadingI used to say something to them but now there are so many that it's pointless. I don't even know if they themselves know why they do it. Maybe they think it's part of the etiquette we could redress a lot of this if we get a mega rich backer who cares though, through things like ticket sales arrangements, grass roots stuff that is connected to ticketing, matchday sales and local ticket sales accounting for a third of the ground
johngibo YPC Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I don't think many thought we had that good a team in 02/03, even when we were top
Behind Enemy Lines Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 nah man, up the north, chiang mai, and i try to avoid going to bangkok unless absolutely necessary. not enough trees, mountains and strange wandering hilltribe people.Well away from this I hope
Stevie H Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Well away from this I hopeaye man, long way away from that. f***ing mess down there it is though, insurgents blow things up weekly. seems they've finally realised that bigger bombs kill more people.
abc Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I don't think many thought we had that good a team in 02/03, even when we were top Still remember that season so clearly. We played some superb stuff, got a few bad results (2-2 draws), Houllier put the shackles back on, won 3-0 at Man City playing some awful stuff. Won a few more games, people went on about how good we'll be when we start playing well. I actually sat there thinking...hold on, we were playing very well earlier in the season, we've gone backwards with the negative tactics but somehow started winning matches again (somehow = Michael Owen). I think we've been slowly (but surely) playing ourselves into form, the passing, movement and general interplay has been improving. Against Spurs I thought we displayed our best attacking and possession performance of the season by a fair bit. In '02 Houllier took us to Boro and played for the 0-0, and got a 1-0 loss. On Saturday we went at Spurs, pressed and passed the ball around them, going for the killer goal and dominated for most of the game. Huge difference. We are too good this time round to go on a similar 11-match run whilst not being able to string mroe than 3 passes together. Granted it is possible to have 11 matches of pure bad luck, but we won't collapse the way we did 6 years ago.
