Bootle Buck Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 How would you rate our summer signings to date. Riera - He has settled in well and has shown he not only has some skill but won't be pushed off the ball easily. I have ben impressed with his ability to beat a man and get a good ball in and that goal today should improve his confidence even more. Keane - He hasn't looked the same player his was with Spurs but a class player doesn't lose it overnight. He still seems to be trying too hard and it isn't quite coming off for him. Luckily others around are scoring or he would be under a lot more scrutiny and pressure. Dossena - IMO he has looked very poor. He looks like he is slow, overweight and couldn't turn to save his life. I am not sure if he has added too much but he seems a liability defensively.
Guest Silkky Skillz Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 A fair assesment I would say. :-)
Chili Palmer Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Riera - much better than I thoughtKeane - Hasn't started yet, but we know what he can doDossena - didn't know much about him before he came but he has been disappointing. but as he is the only one of our signings with no PL experience, we have to hope its just him getting used to it.
alias75 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I get the feeling Dosenna won't be here next season reckon we'll hear something like he has struggled to settle in a new country and he'll move back to Italy. Left back has been such a problem position for so long i wonder if its worth giving Insua his chance, so far when hes played in the first team hes looked fine, and if fit Aurellio is the best left back we have anyway. Think Riera has been great just having that balance on the left has made such a big difference but he really has good quality and i think Keane is getting better and will prove to be a good player for us. Looking how Dirk has played this season when hes had more of a central role i think signing a proper wide right player (sell Pennant) would also make a huge difference. If we had a right sided Riera the balance of the team would be very good. And any 2 from Torres, Keane and Kuyt is a good mix up front. (Obviously Torres + 1)
Mike Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 more than happy with riera and happy with keane. dossena should be sold at 12:01 am on the first day of the january transfer window.

Mike Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 ha considering we haven't got a pot to piss in by most reports, the £7million spent on him makes me weep.
CaptainXabi Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I think it's safe to say that he hasn't been our best player. Hopefully it's a temporary thing caused by some combination of changing leagues, new surroundings, and being a newlywed.

Mike Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Maybe he's pregnant too? i don't say this lightly, and for what i'm about to say you should probably be sat down: he's that bad he's making me miss riise.

Give the bloke a chance why you feel the need to slag him off so quickly is disgusting.
Earl Hafler Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 (edited) he's that bad he's making me miss riise. Now that's just wrong. Edited October 18, 2008 by Earl Hafler

Paddy 66 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 hahaha blessWTF t**t, why continually snipe about somebody who has only just signed for us? You are a joke!
Mike Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 because he's s**** and cost £7m don't take it personally. he's sleeping well.
Barnesy_10 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Dossena certainly hasn't eased any fears over the LB position for us. Aurelio is first choice, which is no bad thing as Aurelio, when fit is a good player... its just a great shame he is rarely fit for any length of time. Dossena just looks clumsy and overweight to me... not sure how long it will be until its ok by some on here for others to criticise, but at this level we need better, or he needs to improve.

FC Showster Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I think a lot of the criticism he's taken today is harsh. For their second he forced their player back inside and away from the cross but was unlucky that the ball deflected off Agger and through his legs leaving it perfect for their player to cross. He's replaced Riise all right, as the whipping boy for some fans
Valleys Red Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 A bit harsh on Dossena. I seem to remember watching Evra's first few games for the mancs and thinking he was complete s****. I'm not saying that Dossena is as good, but at least let him get settled and then see what we've got.
Scapegoat Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Pound for Pound i think its safe to say its Robbie Keane thats been far and away the most disappointing.
Swipe Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Dossena really looks poor, IMO Doesn't look anywhere near an £8m player

I'm not saying that Dossena is as good, but at least let him get settled and then see what we've got.The days of using Evras first few games are long gone as it didn't take Evra long to settle at all. Dossena isn't s***... he's just not at the level that we need in that position. Dossena looked like he was going to fall over for their second, he looked all over the place. Between him and Agger they made a mess of it and its clear to see Jamie screaming at the pair of them for allowing the ball to come in.
Cooger Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 A bit harsh on Dossena. I seem to remember watching Evra's first few games for the mancs and thinking he was complete s****. I'm not saying that Dossena is as good, but at least let him get settled and then see what we've got. and by the sounds of it he (or maybe more importantly his wife) is not settling well. I do think he's got some ability, I think he can defend, I think he can offer a lot going forward as he's put in some decent crosses in at times. However I think the pace of the game has been a total culture shock and he either embraces it or he'll have the same trouble Morinetes had and struggle with it.
Guest Wyatt Earp Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 I am with Rafa on this one. His record on signing defenders has been pretty good i.e. Agger, Skrtel, Aurelio, Aberloa. I think Dossena will come good. Give him time. Neither of today's goals were his fault. For the 1st goal both Reina and Agger f*cked up. For the 2nd goal Valencia got a lucky deflection via Agger which meant Dossena ended up being on the wrong side of Valencia. There was no way I wanted Dossena to slide in give a corner or a free kick as it allows them to get more men in the box. FWIW that cross from Valencia was going nowhere, Zaki just came up with a peach of a finish. I cant recall Dossena being directly responsible for any of our goals. As for the Evra comparison, wasnt this the same Evra who saw Mascherano waltz right by him leaving Ryan Giggs to track back for our winning goal against them. If Dossena did the same thing, it would have been absolute hell on here.
