Hungary's national team coach Erwin Koeman feels Liverpool youngster Krisztian Nemeth needs to play first-team football this season.

Nemeth has impressed in the reserves for Liverpool in the past couple of years and is now trying to force his way into Rafa Benitez's plans.

He has been linked with a loan move to Leeds United and the striker's international boss feels another campaign of second-string football will harm Nemeth's progress.

"I think Krisztian Nemeth is an exceptional talent," Koeman told a press conference. "But I think he can't improve enough in the Liverpool reserve team.

"He should play in the first division week by week.

"Of course, it's not a problem if he plays in the reserve team for one or two years, but doing it for a longer period is just not good for his development.

"I don't think that, at Liverpool, he has a real chance to play besides Torres, Keane, Voronin or Kuyt,

"If he could get into the senior team then it would be a fantastic success, but I think it's more likely that he'd be loaned to another team or - it's worse - he may stay with the reserves."

Nothing wrong with that article.

i do think that the seven subs rule will help the development of fringe players and i would expect to see the likes of nemeth, pacheco and plessis on the bench quite often.

I can't see how Pacheco, Ngog and Nemeth can all be involved this season. One of them has to go on loan, and Voronin has to be sold. Even if you give them the league cup games its not enough top class football to help their development.

I'm guessing that Ngog is more physically ready for the 1st team and that Nemeth will go on loan.

I can't see Pacheco getting too many games this year at all.

He'll have a full season in the reserves before he's even considered for more than a one-off spot on the bench.

I don't see anything wrong with what the manager has said, he's probably right.

He should go on loan if he isn't going to get chances this season. He'd undoubtedly benefit.

He looks really good, but he needs competitive football. It would benefit us as much as him.

Even if Voronin f*cks off, we've still got Torres, Keane, Babel and N'gog as well as Pacheco (I don't see Kuyt playing up front). Voronin really needs to f*ck off though.

Agree with the points made, Nemith is at a stage of his development where reserve team football is no good for him. Hes already played international football. If hes not ready to play games for us (which he isn't) he should spend a season out on loan playing where it matters. I think a loan to a top Championship team would be a great place for him to continue his development.

He won't get enough games if he stayed here and was part of the first team squad he needs to play a full season to test himself.

Hull City will be on the look out for a replacement for Frazier Campbell.

The problem with that is its often attacking players that get sacraficed when teams are struggling, it happened to Le Tallec at Sunderland where he hardly played and when he did it was usually out of position.

I think it would be more beneficial if he played in a team that will play good attacking football and dominate games even if that means dropping into the Championship.

Voronin still being here is what harms Nemeth and Pacheco. The sooner he is sold the better, Go for Torres, Keane, Ngog, Pacheco and Nemeth and we are sorted.

Somebody is going to have to explain me why Erwin Koeman needs to 'f*** off'.

I'm as good as the next man at being over-sensitive when people comment about us, but I can't for the life of me see what is wrong with that artilce.

I agree but i guess the argument would be when the national coach is telling you, you need first team football to progress it could drive him out of the club if he doesn't get his chance sooner or later. Personally i think he should be patient and his chance will come next season. I also agree having older players like Voronin here that aren't good enough to justify blocking a good young player isn't helping.

Back in '93 we had Nigel 'last piece of the jigsaw' Clough injured and Souness gave some kid a go in the no. 23 shirt against Fulham. He did okay.

If Keane & Voronin were injured and Kuyt was suspended would Rafa give Nemeth a chance or would he go back to the 'round hole but square peg' system and move Babel or Benayoun up alongside Torres?

It may be through bowing to the pressure to win or wanting to keep his stars happy... I just think we have too many players.

We don't need 4 'top' strikers; there should always be room for the promising youngsters to get a chance.

For my money, Nemeth is the second best goalscorer at the club. I can see the logic of sending him out on loan but given his talent and his age (19) he should be one of the 4 main strikers. For me it's Torres, Keane, Nemeth and Ngog. Kuyt - if he plays, play him on the right or striker in an emergency. Babel on the left or as a floaty striker.

If Nemeth gets the service he will be a tremendous asset for us and a consistent goalscorer. That's not hype, it's just based on what I've seen at the Halliwell last season. He's class.

i think you are right, he is still very young although the 7 subs thing might be good for him, we could give him some time in the squad, keep him on the bench when we are playing at home to weaker sides, and give him some time when the game has been wrapped up.

Still think if we get rid of the fat Paris Hilton, keep Torres, Keane and kuyt, and then use Ngog or Nemeth as 4th striker then that would be a pretty decent strike force

I agree with all this. It's no use having those players if your not gonna use them. And I think both Nemeth and Pacheco are ready to take the step up.

I don't think Voronin hampers anyone's progression. If they're playing well enough & are hungry enough, they'll leapfrog him. He was completely out of the squad for a large part of the run-in last season. I think Rafa would be rid given the chance

I would have liked to have seen him as fourth choice this season behind Torres, Keane and Kuyt. Now that we have signed Ngog that is unlikely. If he stays he will be fighting for 2 minute appearances and league cup games with Pacheco. That doesn't even include Babbel and Gerrard. At least it looks like Voro is leaving and it gives Rafa "possibilities".

Nemeth is ready. Now. I don't see that he is any less ready than Fowler or Owen were when we threw them in. Only by giving him a run of real games will we find out what he's really got.

I'd be happy to see us start the season with Nemeth, Torres and Keane up front, with Gerard, Barry and Alonso behind them,

Pacheco is ready to regularly be an impact sub. I think Darby has a fighting chance too, because he has pace and courage. Really not sure about Insua, Plessis and Spearing though.

I don't hold with the 'give 'em the Carling Cup games' approach. To develop, these kids need to be playing in strong teams alongside good players. Getting put into teams with squad players, and other kids, in games where the crowd isn't that ar*ed does not help development IMO.

Not really, just because he's here doesn't mean Rafa has to play him. If Rafa has no long term plans for Voronin and he plays him ahead of Nemeth etc in suitable games (ie not ones were inexperience could cost us) then that is Rafa's fault. I don't think he will though.

how ready a player is can also depend on who happens to be in front of them in the pecking order!

Shame we haven't got any wingers that are ready :D
