Yesterday was the first time I've missed an away game at O.T. for about 8 years. To tell you the truth I'm absolutely sick of the vile atmosphere that surrounds it which both sides contribute to. Singing about Munich, Hillsborough, Heysel, Shankley, Shipman is a completely t***tish thing to do and the people who do it are t***s. Just cos something is 'understandable' doesn't make it right. I'm absolutely sick of the b******s that goes with it - "they started it/no they started it".There is no moral highground at all - United have w*****s among their support, we have w*****s among ours. One thing that does irritate me though is that it has never been portrayed like this within the media. If only they'd come out and say 'there's g*******s on both sides'. eg I read references to the George Best chants at O.T in 05-06 yet none referring to Michael Shields that same day. There was a hell of a lot of coverage of the disrupted silence for George Best at Eastlands yet none about "There's only one Graham Sankey" or Michael Shields songs which got sang in September - 2 months (I think) before George Best died. How much media coverage did the disrupted silence for Tony Bland by United fans at Anfield in 92-93? There has always been chanting about deaths/disasters from both sides - it calmed down certainly in the immediate aftermath of Hillsborough but it never went away completely. I can clearly recall the United fans singing about Hillsborough In April 92 to say it didn't happen for 5 years or so after Hillsborough is just a trick of someone's imagination. Not doubting the sincerity of those that think it never by the way just saying that it did. As a Liverpool fan I can only do my bit at trying to put our house in order - I won't sing the Munich/Shipman b******s and I've pulled people up about singing s**** in the past. I remember asking some of our 'fans' if they 'fancied giving us one about Hillsborough' at Maine Road in 2002. Singing about dead pensioners the sick f***s. The sad thing is I wouldn't have the bottle to do that these days such is the situation at the moment. In the meantime, I can only implore the likes of Ostrich Man etc to give the likes of Pete Boyle's creations the wide berth. There is something seriously wrong with a bloke who has nothing else going on in his life than to compose some of the sick stuff he writes. "How we'll kill him I don't know, we'll cut him up from head to toe, all we know is Glazer's gonna die". FFS!!!!!!!!!!!! He's in his mid 30s the sad b*****d! Go the match and implore those around you to sing some pro United songs. You've enough glorious moments in your history to eulogise about without having to resort to such s***. A final cliched, patronising thought while we're on the subject - as somebody once said "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem". Don't let the g*******s win.
