So how long before he's officially part of the play? Anyone who doesn't think the 4th official had anything to do with ZZ's red card in the WCF needs their head testing. And then in the Euro's - when the ref sent-off the Russian only to rescind the card; the lino was on the far side - he couldn't have seen that there was no contact. It was the correct decision, but they may as well officially involve him or outlaw it althgether

That yellow was rescinded not because there was no contact but because the linesman on the far side had flagged that the ball had gone out for a goal kick, so the ball was out and the ref couldn't give a yellow for a tackle while the ball was out of play.

 

The Zidane incident, imo, the ref looked at the replay on the big screen.

That's indeed how it seemed like. However, it's complete b******s, as it has no bearing whether the ball is in play or not if you commit a foul against another player. How else do you explain Volkan's red card for instance?

Aye, I was wondering about that. Surely if he was late and caught him, it doesn't matter where the ball was.

If he was booked because he denied the player a shot on goal etc with the challenge but it would not be a bookable offense if the ball was not in play it does, since the ball was out of play and he did not deny him that goalscoring opportunity.

 

If the ball has been out of play you cant be booked for a handball etc..

Not sure of the Volkan incident. But what i've said is true, not sure if the ref was right or wrong by the letter of the law, but that is what happened all the same. The fact a goal kick was taken afterwards makes it fairly obvious.
