Kewell is an idiot

Liverpool winger Harry Kewell admits he is determined to prove Rafa Benitez wrong after the Australian claimed he had been unfairly treated by the Spaniard.

Kewell, 29, is to be released by The Reds when his contract expires this summer to bring to an end a largely unhappy five-year spell at Anfield.

Kewell is on the lookout for a new club, though the Australian rejected speculation that Portsmouth have already agreed a deal.

"The one person I would like to show is probably my old manager," said Kewell.

"I didn't get a chance to show him a lot of what I could do.

"It would be great just to show him what I was capable of doing."

Kewell denied erroneous speculation that he is Pompey bound.

"Apparently my agent did it [a deal with Portsmouth] on the plane when he was coming over [to Australia], so I don't know how he did that," Kewell told reporters.

"There is always speculation.

"I have never shied away from going abroad, playing in the Premiership or playing anywhere."

"My options are open. We'll see what happens."

Can take those comments either way. Unless he spoke more specifically then i would read them as meaning he couldn't show Rafa what he was capable of because of injury. Not because the man didn't give him a chance

There's no way he could argue that Rafa didn't give him a chance. He played him pretty much whenever he could, including in two European Cup finals and an FA Cup final.

I dont think hes said too much wrong there but he turned down a reduced pay offer (allegedley). If this is true he is one greedy bastid as he has stole a f***en living here for years. Whatever he says he does owe the club and manager as rafa played him in 2 finals when clearly not quite fit and he has earned millions here while sitting on his a*** (before any aussies start I know he never chose to). This is the perfect opportunity to show club loyalty and thank rafa by proving his fitness on reduced wage on a one year deal for example. He couldnt be arsed.

I think hes a talented player but lost patience with him now. Its not like hes skint and cant afford the pay drop, he earns enough off f***en magazines with pictures of him and his missus in

I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up playing in Quatar or somewhere like that for a big pay check. He should be praisng Rafa for putting up with his lame a*** attitude this past four seasons. FFS he let him play in two final's he shouln't have and let him go to the WC which lost another year. Good Fecking Riddance to him.

Is correct. He is one cheeky bastid

Scandalous nonsense spouted by illiterates about Kewell.

I am happy we paid him wages commensurate with his astronomical talent and didn't ship him out at the first sign of injury or refuse to pay him when injured or whatever the salt of the earth are suggesting we should have done, because we had the chance, however slim, of having him fit and playing regularly to the best of his abilities.

It didn't work out that way.

"The one person I would like to show is probably my old manager," said Kewell. "I didn't get a chance to show him a lot of what I could do. It would be great just to show him what I was capable of doing."

The man is a brilliant player, but injured. Should Rob Jones have showed a bit more bottle after his injury?

It wouldn't have been easy to ship him out with the wage packet and contract his agent worked out for him.

If astronomical talent means pushing the ball past a player and hoping to get it when you have the speed of a snail then you are easily pleased. He was superb in his early career for Leeds but was frankly a waste of money for us.

a lot of revisionist rubbish talked about kewell and his time here. he was no where near as bad as people like to suggest.

i was there at that fa cup semi v chelsea at old trafford and he was by far the best player on the pitch until he went off injured towards the end of the game. and that was the story of his liverpool career.

Good post. That game was the only time we saw the real Harry kewell, IMO. Brilliant performance, took the piss with every Chelsea player in front of him. That's what he could do when fit. Even his first 4-5 months while good were never Harry at his best IMO, although considering he was new to the team he did as well as could be expected.

I have no problem with his ability and i'm sure he didnt want to be injured but that does not alter the fact that:

1 He didnt play much for us

2 He got paid a lot of money while not playing much for us

3 Rafa obviously rated him or he wouldn't have played him in 2 finals when not 100% fit so the "proving my ability to the old

manager" s*** doesn't wash

4 He has had the chance to take a pay drop and prove to his manger what talent he has and decided not to bother

Not arsed at all that he's going

off yer pop harry - your pumps have been whitened for a while....

Alternative look:

Could a few of Kewells injuries been avoided if we did not rush him back because we lacked other options?

And with a few big games coming up a few of these times who could blame Kewell for wanting to play if given the chance, should our back room staff have stopped him instead of encouraged him on such occasions?

So your happy he is gone, but think he is a c*** for not signing on. OK.

Kewell is saying he wants to prove the manager wrong, wouldn't the best way to do that is by accepting the lower contract and showing it at the club he told us that he loved?

fair enough if he wants to try another league at this stage of his career, but he shouldn't say that he wants to prove the manager (who wanted him to stay) wrong

Did he say he would prove him wrong or did he say he would show him he could play?

If Rafa did not think Kewell had the ability would he have offered him another contract?

Rafa rates Kewell, thats not a secret, thats why he offered him a new contract

Having seen it, he is saying like he is disappointed he didn't get the chance late when he was fit. He isn't having a go at Rafa who did what he had to do.

Basically it is f*** all but the media is going for it, as they do.

Yes I know so I`m not sure Kewell actuallu meant that he wanted to prove Rafa wrong, Rafa offered him a new contract did he not.

It could also be that Kewell wanted to prove Rafa right since he actually had faith in him, but Kewell would not take wages based on performances etc.

I am happy he is gone just because of the fact that he didnt want to stay and prove his worth. He would rather go somewhere else to do that as he thinks he can get more money whilst "proving" what he is capable of. I do rate his ability but dont rate the greed. He has had backing at the club for a long time here (especially by Rafa) while he has been injured. He has decided not to repay that and to move. That is why I am happy he has gone not because I think he is a bad player.

The headline said he was unfairly treated.

There are no quotes from Kewell to that effect.

Just tabloid b******s.
