We need a new man

To help Rafa on the training pitch.

Since Pako went, we seem to have lost ideas and confidence. If we cant get Pako back in, we need to get someone else, with some motivational skills and coaching skills. We are clueless at set pieces, and we lack ideas when they are desperately needed.

There is no questioning Rafa's managerial ability IMHO, but we need someone else in on the coaching side, pretty desperately!

Who that should be, I dont know - but its got to happen.

Molby's touched on this elsewhere - apparently the Yanks wouldn't sanction Rafa's choice. Missed who that was though

Everyone said it was Sammy Lee that Hicks and Gillet blocked. Since then McAllister at Leeds has said that he wanted Sammy Lee to be his number 2 but he couldn't as his contract with Bolton hasn't been settled.

Vaguely recall Balague saying on The Game that Bolton were keen to stop him taking up a job somewhere else. His claim was that Sammy didn't fail as much as was trying to take poor players to places they couldn't go and the Bolton board don't want someone else to benefit from his talents.

Could have been b******s, like.

It's true that the equilibrium between players and manager has been disrupted since Pakos departure and is the most likely explanation for our confidence crisis.

Didn't know that about Sammy Lee - it bodes badly for Rafa. Another undermining tactic from Hicks.

Strange if true. If they admire his talents then they shouldn't have sacked him and then having sacked him, haven't they got enough problems of their own without worrying where Sammy Lee is going next.

All in all we are in a right mess at the minute.

Its all looking more and more likely that Rafa is off in the summer, and God what a mess thats going to cause.

"I did look to bring Sammy Lee in, but he's still negotiating with Bolton over his contract and that made the situation difficult.

"I told Sammy that I needed to get someone in straight away and he understood where I was coming from."

Gary McAllister 6th Feb 2008

So, basically, Lee wasn't available but it is easy to see how a rumour turns into an internet fact.

I think the effect on Rafa, personally and professionally, by losing Pako cannot be underestimated. On top of that the effect it has had on communication between Rafa and the players as well.

It could be that Rafa asked for Lee but it would have meant Liverpool buying out the rest of his contract with Bolton, thats why Hicks said no!

The yanks are getting blamed for everything

They will spend millions on players and players wages but they wont let rafa hire a number 2.....

B'ollocks

It could also be that Sammy Lee had morphed Kafkaesque into a short, stocky insect and that Hicks didn't want to take a chance on the winged arthropod. It could be, it could be :)

It is more likely that Lee was not available due to ongoing negotiations with Bolton. He may be available by the summer but as McAllister indicated, he certainly isn't available now.

Since Pako left it's been clear Rafa needs a new #2. But Sammy Lee? not sure he's the right man. After Houllier lost Patrice Bergonnes(sp) Lee never successfully replaced him.

We weren't that brilliant last season when Pako was with us.

apart from tallying the most points we've *ever* had in the league and reaching the cl finals

sorry all this sack rafa s*** is b******s. we've been t****** with injuries, the owners have unsettled everyone, pako moved on as he had the chance to return to spain with a better job and carra, finnan, riise, gerrard, alonso, kuyt and crouch have all had the worst seasons of their lives. f*** your sack rafa bulls***! i'd rather see the back of the fans that post unintelligent offal on teh internets for no better reason than to stir up s***

once the players walk across the white line theres little a manager can do. alas this season our lads have played like s**** on the whole so its hardly surpirsing we're lagging. also lucky old moyes there has been allowed a few seasons to learn his trade, build and hes doing f***ing well. you lot that want to see the back of rafa are f***ing short sighted if you think chopping and chaning every time theres a hint of trouble will benefit the club in the long run

Just a thought but if there are serious considerations about Rafa future there is no way they would appoint a new assistant manager if that means bumping up the compensation package at the end of the season. It is quite common for a new man to bring in their own coaching staff. That's how I read it.

We were 21 points behind the champion (manc 89 pts.) and the most point tally was 2005-06 when we finished on 82 pts.

I don't know, may be Rafa's got too much on his plate?

He seems to be responsible for everything coaching, transfers, players' contract, reserve, youth etc.

I think he is over-worked and as a result loosing focus on main issue.

I know that he didn't have that much responsibilities during his time at Valencia.

What he said.

I think many of you underestimate just how unsettling the boardroom shenanigans have been.

It's clear that some of the players just aren't pulling their weight... because they think Rafa is on his way out??

Anyone who wants to get rid of Rafa needs their heads testing - for a number of legitimate reasons, we just don't have the talent in depth that the that the current top three do - and anyone that mentions that c*** Mourinho's name needs banning... shameless!!

Exactly - and thats why they need to just back Rafa and get a number 2 in quick smart!
